Although I like the idea I must admit I am more of a youth movement type of guy rather than old geazer win now lol. So I doubt I would make the trade but I would welcome it if it happened

Mock drafts are all over the place I've seen us getting any of the three

IDK.... The draft experts and a lot of fans have had the big 3 of Edwards/Wiseman/Ball in some order 1-2-3 for awhile. IMO, that's the first tier and then the next tier starts at 4. We hit lottery luck and we draft a guy in the second tier.....nah.

I have zero problem with us taking Blal there. I am a fan of Balls. Not a fan of wiseman or edwards at allll

Sounds good. That's what I like about this draft and this board - everyone has players they are higher on, and lower on. I have two feelings about the first three picks.....

1. I think Ball goes either 1 or 2. I think his potential star power will be locked in by some team and/or a trade up for his services will occur.

2. I trust Mitch to add an All-Star caliber player with our selection, regardless of position.

I honestly cannot gauge my thoughts on Ball. As soon as I want to lock in my vote to disregard him as a lot of hype that won't actualize because of his immaturity, I think of how special he might be too. A future backcourt of he and Graham is playground star-level exciting.

I personally like Wiseman and think he is a helluva piece to add to our young core, on a rookie contract. I think the concerns about him are no more merited than the concerns for any of the other 19 year olds slotted to go (Ball, Edwards, Avidja). I think Mitch will weigh the options, trust his gut and make the correct selection at 3. It's not often we are up this high, nor do we desire to be... so we've gotta Baron Davis this, and not Morrison it.

I think the Hornets stick at #3 and draft. The pick will be high usage the next two seasons due to the club's dedication to player development. A Toppin pick would be a win-now pick, and that's not where they are. Better chance Kupchak trades for a player and a pick in the 20's with cap space than trading down to acquire additional picks. #3 on the board is simply too valuable without a haul.

And, sure, I'd take Beal. #3 won't be enough for him, though.

Agreed - unless the pure 5 (7 footer) has great mobility/agility along with range on his J - which Wiseman has (I think??)

To be clear, I'm not "out" on Wiseman, just cautious. I think there are enough similarly-talented guys that should be considered, and that it's not as simple as "take whichever of the big 3 are left."

I'm not sure Okongwu is really that undersized, at least by modern standards: 6-9 with good length and athleticism. Has an eye for playmaking, too.

I kinda wish I saw Wiseman as the consensus top big, as many others do. But he, Okongwu, and Toppin have different enough skillsets that it makes it tough for me to pick the best one.

TIER 1 -

WISEMAN - I think he is a stiff.

EDWARDS - Overated in the athletic department. Reminds me of Dion Waters. I think several will be better than he is.

BALL - A risk, but could provide a much needed BUZZ and become respectable enough to land other talent

-----
TIER 2 -

HALIBURTON - Would solidify our PG depth and allow us to consider trading Graham if he works out.

OKONGWU - Undersized, no real jumper and average defender...

TOPPIN - I would pick him over Edwards or Wiseman if that makes you feel better but it stops there...

AVDIJA - The "meh-ist" 3rd pick ever. He does have potential but it's just a super Meh pick. I would rather it over wiseman or edwards tho

HAYES - would be a good fit here in Charlotte. He is like Lamello without the RISK. High enough upside and good investment.

-----
TIER 3 - (guys we can trade back for)

DOTSON - Almost a guaranteed to be a good player. He has no real weaknesses to his game.

BEY - Reminds me so much of Shawn Marion. Wont be a star tho.

NNAJI - I think better all around center than Wiseman is. Would be better investment to trade back for him.

MCDANIELS - A player that gives you 2 positions and will be a solid player at either one.

BALMARO - Should have a solid career

SMITH - another center that would be better traded back for than wiseman. Can play both positions downlow and improved through his career

That's probably the one team where Beal doesn't make any sense. And you guys don't make sense because you don't have pieces to put around Beal. You need to build through the draft for a few years. Of the top 3 teams, the TWolves would actually make the most sense. Beal next to KAT and Russell would make a ton of sense.

I'm half joking, what with all the talk of the Warriors moving their pick, but we're barely a year removed from them signing D'Angelo Russell to a max deal.

Wouldn't put it past them.

I agree on all counts, a sign and trade of Beasley plus the top pick would be a hell of a trade for the Wizards. I don't think they'd say no to that.

A bit older, but good fodder for a historical perspective on the #3. At the time of writing, over half of all #3 picks appeared in at least 1 all star game, and there've only been 3 glaring busts, highlighted by - you guessed it - Ammo.

Since writing, Tatum has been named an all-star, Jaylen Brown has been borderline all-star material, and RJ Barrett is still a wee baby.

Dayton played a modern NBA offense and I think Toppin will slide right in as a big who can make plays for teammates. He's not a vacuum at all and he is deadly around the rim. I think he's ready on day one but has star upside. Would love watching him run and finish with our guards lobbing to him instead of Biz or Zeller. We've never had a big who plays above the rim on offense and runs the floor like him.

To respond to a few points being made here...

I understand the infatuation some may have with Obi Toppin, but it just seems like such a poor selection for a number of different reasons. Most glaringly, I don't see how he shares the court with PJ who is undoubtedly the best prospect on our team. I think we have a really, really good player on our hands in PJ and I absolutely loathe the idea of using a top-three pick on a player two years older than PJ that has a lot of defensive concerns. If he were younger I'd be game, but I hate him here mainly from a fit perspective.

I've seen some mention trading the pick for Beal. First off... I am like 98% sure we could nail this pick and the player still won't be as good as Beal. That being said... I just don't think we are in a position to take on a player like that. Even with Beal we are a 7-8 seed at best. I'm not entirely sure what his contract situation is like but would he want to spend the rest of his prime on a treadmill team? Who knows. I'm out on that just because I think the focus still needs to be youth.

Last night I was hopeful Ball would be there, but the more I read today I really think one and two will be Edwards and Ball, regardless of who ends up picking second. But maybe I'm wrong, I hope I am. I can not decide where I stand on Wiseman. A lot of the people I follow on twitter who I REALLY trust on the draft don't even have Wiseman as a lottery caliber player. A lot of these same people were also out on Ayton though, and he looks fine.

I think Edwards and Wiseman go 1/2 and I'm not sure about the order.

As of right now I think I'd take Wiseman even if we had the 1st pick.

Ball scares the **** out of me.

Edwards has his share of red flags and scares me a bit, but also seems like the type of guy that once he gets to the NBA will be more focused and engaged and thrive in the space and pace style. I'm just not convinced yet he has the superstar offensive potential people are claiming. I get some Tyreke Evans vibes from him, which isn't the worst thing in the world, but I'm just very skeptical hes going to be anything like the next Harden.

I think Devonte and PJ are well on their way to becoming high level starters, but regardless I agree you pick the best player on your board position be damned.

PJ is the only player on the roster who I would consider at all when making the pick, but I think the only guy in our range who has potential fit issues with him is Obi Toppin, who I think I'd prefer not to take anyways unless the alternative is Lamelo.

Yeah, I think people talking about centers not being valuable anymore are blowing things out of proportion. Guys with freak physical profiles and mobility are still the most valuable defenders in the game and vertical spacers are still valuable on offense. Its just harder for 5s to be offensive superstars unless they can shoot and/or pass. I don't think Wiseman is that likely to become an offensive superstar, but he has shown the ability to handle the ball pretty well for a guy his size and has shown enough potential with his shooting and has the mechanical base to potentially be a guy who could at least keep defenses honest from deep. Hes going to be a fantastic vertical spacer and finisher from day one and has the potential to wreak havoc on defense and on the glass. In this iffy draft class I think you'll take that any day of the week with the 3rd pick.

Its still early in the process for me, so maybe my feelings will change, but I think Wiseman has the tools to be a fantastic center prospect in todays game and if you pass on him I don't think it should be just because he is a 5.

Going by the posts here, with Ball and Wiseman increasingly looking like locks to be off the board by #3, it seems most people think it comes down to Edwards, Haliburton, and Hayes. Potential versus polish. An interesting dilemma.

We do a collaborative Hornets big board each year.

Will be a fun one this year - the most fun one in a long while.
