Hmmm indeed.... Indiana’s Sabonis? But again not likely.... hmmmmmmmmm so maybe Durant at the 4 then... makes filling the 2 spot easier
Durant is the 4 unless he's playing the 5 in a small lineup. Players have typically moved up a position later in their career due to diminished athleticism. Coming off an achilles injury, that's probably especially true for Durant. He likely has more success bodying up than staying in front of quicker wings. You wish Joe was big enough to body PFs. It's where the RoCo, Tobias, Gordon type hybrid forward would be very useful, so that you can play KD on the better matchup. Joe's shooting is needed between KD and Kyrie though. It probably outweighs the defensive flexibility.
I'm more worried about the perimeter. I don't like the idea of Kyrie, Harris and LeVert/Dinwiddie defensively.
Which is why we need to get an athletic wing that can defend on the roster. Marks has got to fix this team's defensive issues.
With so few of these guys seemingly available, we really need to find our own Royce O'Neale, Mikal Bridges, PJ Washington, etc.
That's why you either have to get lucky drafting a guy like this, trade for a hidden gem or find an untouted free agent. But I feel like what you almost always have to do with these guys, is trust a young player, probably not yet noted for his defensive chops at the NBA level, with a big role on defense. Then if you didn't draft the guy or find him on the scrap heap, you have to get creative and take advantage of a team with a guy buried behind so much other depth, that even if the coach and GM know what they have, they can't find many minutes for him and can't even get much overall value for him in trade.
Enter Keita Bates-Diop.
He's hidden under a pile of dirty uniforms and towels on the floor of the team's laundry room, behind guys like Barton, Grant, Porter Jr, even Gary Harris and Torrey Craig.
Maybe you can simply throw them Musa and one of our better future 2nds?
I'd take that chance all day.
