I wanted to return to this as I didn't address the central concept of the post in my responses above. All reports - at least prior to Aiyuk's injury - have been that he and Bourne have been very good this camp. Most of the beat writers who have mentioned a "best" WR of training camp have mentioned one or both of these guys rather than Taylor. Still too early to say they should have taken Hamler.

If Aiyuk isn't getting clear go to WR receiver type hype vs the likes of Trent Taylor and Kendrick Bourne, then that's the indication there's a problem. KJ pulled his hammy the other day, which they're saying will take four weeks to recover, so maybe Aiyuk can make up some ground.

Aiyuk may have also pulled his hammy. We'll see.

You may be right about what we should expect from Aiyuk, but it's still moving the goalposts from your prior statement. Shanahan's offense is notoriously complicated, and Aiyuk has had an abbreviated offseason to digest it. And he's consistently looked like the best receiver out there according to reports. There wasn't much buzz about Samuel last year, and he panned out. It's really early to make a determination on these guys. Unless you've already made up your mind, of course.

As for Hamler, he's the type of guy who is going to look really good in training camp, but could struggle more in pads and under the lights. I think they're both talented guys, and there's little doubt that Hamler is the more electric player, but he's got some question marks, too.

From Maiocco on this topic:

Aiyuk and Kendrick Bourne have been the 49ers’ top receivers during practices this summer. Trent Taylor has established himself as the team’s best slot receiver. Taylor has a chance to provide Garoppolo with a third-down option in a role the club lacked in 2019 while he spent the season on IR due to complications from foot surgery.

I hate the no PS games.

This offense tho. A line that may be strong at every position, Mostert and Jet, Juice, Kittle and Reed, and young but talented WRs. (I wish we had Hurd too) A lot of pressure on Jimmy to produce this year.

I REALLY want to see this at 100%.

RG and C are looking like a concern right now. Hopefully Garland comes back and Brunskill can kick back to RG, and/or McKivitz develops quickly at RG, but even then I can't see calling the interior situation "strong." Tomlinson looks to really be coming into his own, fortunately.

If Samuel gets back and Aiyuk isn't bothered by the injury, the receiver group could be interesting. Banking on players with substantial injury history in McKinnon and Reed, but if those guys are right, this offense should be really fun to watch.

I was making the assumption that the starters will play most of the season, and I did say "may". :)

Williams, Tomlinson, Richburg, Brunskill, McGlinchey looks good to me based on their play last year and assuming Williams comes close to his old form.

And if Reed and Jet and Taylor miss half the season it won't be as good for sure. Right now I'm just hoping to see them play more than once all together.

MEKHI BECTON
T, NEW YORK JETS

The Athletic's Connor Hughes confirms No. 11 overall pick Mekhi Becton has locked down left tackle duties.

Not that there was really ever any doubt, but these sorts of things can't be taken for granted in the corona offseason. Despite the impressive summer, 21-year-old Becton will be making a massive leap from ACC in a year where offseason reps did not exist.

CURTIS WEAVER
DE, MIAMI DOLPHINS

Dolphins waived/injured DE Curtis Weaver.

The No. 164 overall pick apparently has a "serious" foot injury. He will revert to injured reserve once he clears waivers. An "upside" pick who slid in the draft for a variety of reasons, 22-year-old Weaver will be up against it to crack the 53-man roster in 2021.

CURTIS WEAVER
DE, CLEVELAND BROWNS

Browns claimed DE Curtis Weaver off waivers from the Dolphins.

The Dolphins were hoping to sneak the No. 164 overall pick through waivers after he injured his foot, but the Browns decided to pounce. As the Miami Herald's Adam Beasley put it on Twitter, the Dolphins ended up getting five padded practices out of a fifth-round pick. Not exactly ideal. A cult favorite amongst the draft community, Weaver's fifth-round fall surprised on draft weekend. It is unclear if Weaver will be healthy enough to play in 2020.

GRANT DELPIT
DB, CLEVELAND BROWNS

Browns second-round S Grant Delpit was carted from Monday's practice with an Achilles' tendon injury.

A tear has yet to be confirmed, but that will likely happen Monday evening. The Browns media had observed the No. 44 overall pick having a strong camp, so it would be a dispiriting blow. We will know Delpit's status soon enough.

GRANT DELPIT
DB, CLEVELAND BROWNS

Browns placed FS Grant Delpit on injured reserve with a torn Achilles' tendon, ending his season.

This was the expectation earlier Monday and an MRI confirmed the worst. Without Delpit, the Browns have a major hole opposite SS Karl Joseph. New free agent Earl Thomas could be an option, though the mysterious circumstances surrounding his exit from the Ravens could be a holdup. Andrew Sendejo is the "top" in-house option. Still one month shy of his 22nd birthday, Delpit should return to 100 percent health well before the start of the 2021 season. The No. 44 overall pick was the No. 3 safety off the board in this year's draft. Capable of playing multiple positions, Delpit profiles as an asset both against the pass and run once he's finally able to make his NFL debut next year.

TEE HIGGINS
WR, CINCINNATI BENGALS

Tee Higgins (hamstring) is practicing Monday.

Higgins missed a few days with hamstring tightness. He was doing 11-on-11 work Monday. Higgins still needed to be stretched out at times during Monday's session, but he returned to team drills. Higgins is competing for No. 3 duties alongside A.J. Green and Tyler Boyd. Auden Tate has been standing out in a big way during camp, putting the heat on Higgins and John Ross for snaps.

J.K. DOBBINS
RB, BALTIMORE RAVENS

The Athletic's Jeff Zrebiec reports "every practice seems to bring another highlight-reel submission" from second-round rookie J.K. Dobbins.

This is one of those instances where it would be bad news if that wasn't the case. Zrebiec reported three days ago that it "might be a weekly decision" who serves as Mark Ingram's primary backup. We would assume Dobbins will usually have a leg up on Gus Edwards and Justice Hill, but he has to force the Ravens' hand and earn more touches. Dobbins could be a shaky FLEX to begin the season.

LYNN BOWDEN
RB, LAS VEGAS RAIDERS

The Athletic's Vic Tafur reports third-round Raiders rookie Lynn Bowden "hasn’t flashed a lot of speed."

Blazing speed wasn't necessarily a pre-draft selling point for Bowden, though he claimed he ran in the 4.4s/4.5s. An injury kept Bowden from running at the Combine. Coach Jon Gruden recently termed Bowden a "project." Bowden's Swiss-Army versatility and play-making ability makes him an intriguing Dynasty league stash, but rookie re-draft value seems to be out of the question.

JOE REED
WR, LOS ANGELES CHARGERS

The Athletic reports rookie Chargers WR Joe Reed has spent time with the running backs.

An "offensive weapon" type, Reed will have to be comfortable at multiple positions to earn snaps in the Chargers' crowded skill corps. It's possible 22-year-old Reed will spend 2020 marinating on the practice squad.

CHASE CLAYPOOL
WR, PITTSBURGH STEELERS

The Athletic's Mark Kaboly raves that second-round WR Chase Claypool continues to make "non-rookie-like" plays.

"Practice after practice, the rookie is making non-rookie-like plays after running non-rookie-like routes and making non-rookie-like catches," were Kaboly's exact words. "Claypool just keeps showing up." An imposing physical presence, Claypool has apparently also made a habit of corralling "leaping" catches. Claypool probably won't see enough rookie targets to make a consistent re-draft impact, but especially with JuJu Smith-Schuster's Pittsburgh future uncertain, the second-rounder is someone you can be excited about in Dynasty leagues. BRANDON AIYUK
WR, SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

The Athletic's Matt Barrows and David Lombardi report first-round WR Brandon Aiyuk has been "as good as advertised" through the first eight days of 49ers camp.

Per Barrows, Aiyuk has already developed strong chemistry with Jimmy Garoppolo as he's "caught screens, he’s taken handoffs and perhaps most important, he’s gone deep." Lombardi reports he's played faster than his listed 4.5 speed. Currently battling a hamstring injury, Aiyuk is arguably in the driver's seat to open the season as the 49ers' No. 1 wideout if his health cooperates.

JAMYCAL HASTY
RB, SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

The Athletic's Matt Barrows and David Lombardi report UDFA RB JaMycal Hasty has been standing out in 49ers camp.

Lombardi raves that Hasty has been "elusive, separates on pass patterns in one-on-drills and is difficult for defenders to square up because of natural fluidity and change-of-direction ability in traffic." Lombardi believes it is unlikely that Hasty would make it through waives unclaimed. The pre-draft knock on Hasty was that he relied too much on agility instead of physicality to move the ball, but running back whisperer Kyle Shanahan could be the man to unlock his full potential. Keep Hasty rostered in Dynasty leagues.

CAM AKERS
RB, LOS ANGELES RAMS

The Athletic's Jourdan Rodrigue believes Cam Akers will separate from Darrell Henderson in the second half of the season.

Assuming Henderson's hamstring is fine by Week 1, Rodrigue expects a "fairly even split" of touches between Akers and Henderson to begin the season with Malcolm Brown also in the mix "especially in short-yardage." It's the consensus projection in the fantasy community, but it's nice to see confirmation from a plugged-in beat reporter. Akers may begin the year only as a flex play, but there's RB2 upside if he can handle the transition from a poorly-blocked Florida State offensive line to a poorly-blocked Rams offensive line. The Rams need to replace Todd Gurley's pass-blocking reps, and Akers may be the best pass-protecting back on the roster despite being a rookie. In the end, Henderson's health just may be the biggest key to Akers' potential breakout.

ANTONIO GIBSON
WR, WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM

Washington RB Antonio Gibson has received "a fair amount of first-team reps."

Washington's depth chart has names but lacks stand-out talent, particularly following Derrius Guice's release. In training camp, Adrian Peterson has received first-team reps whenever he's practiced, but Gibson and J.D. McKissic have also mixed in. Peyton Barber and Bryce Love appear to be behind them on the depth chart, as Washington team reporter Kevin Stackpole notes they've been working with the second- and third-team offenses. Gibson is still a total question mark heading into the season, but if he's good, he'll earn touches as the season progresses. Expect Peterson to handle early-down duties with Gibson as Washington's gadget player to begin the season. The new coaching staff reportedly has been implementing more pre-snap motion and reverses this offseason. That certainly helps Gibson's chances of becoming a startable fantasy asset down the line.

XAVIER MCKINNEY
S, NEW YORK GIANTS

Giants rookie S Xavier McKinney will undergo surgery to repair a fractured left foot.

The fracture is to McKinney's fifth metatarsal, frequently associated with a Jones fracture. This is not a season-ending injury, but McKinney will be sidelined for 2-3 months, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. The first-year player was a second-round pick out of Alabama and was expected to play a starter's role for the Giants defense as a hybrid safety/linebacker.

JORDAN LOVE
QB, GREEN BAY PACKERS

The Athletic's Matt Schneidman wrote that Jordan Love "has yet to even provide a glimpse at why the Packers traded up to draft him in the first round."

Love was featured in the "Falling Stock" section of the Packers' training camp recap, largely because of his arm. Schneidman writes, "Nobody expected him to take the world by storm in his first nine practices, but every throw he makes seems like a touch pass and he’s had some accuracy issues early on." Love was a highly debated prospect coming out of Utah State for this exact reason. While he made unbelievable plays at times, Love had notable accuracy and interception issues on tape. The Packers likely have two seasons to groom Love with Aaron Rodgers' contract essentially preventing him from leaving before that, but it appears they have their work cut out with development. Love's raw tools are what made the Packers trade up for him in the later portion of the 2020 first round.

DEEJAY DALLAS
RB, SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

The Seattle Times reports fourth-round rookie DeeJay Dallas' pass-catching ability has shown up in practice.

Longtime beat writer Bob Condotta believes Dallas "could get some significant snaps in the two-minute/third-down back role." Carries, of course, will likely be in short supply. Even in PPR, Dallas is not looking like a rookie re-draft consideration.
