I wanted to return to this as I didn't address the central concept of the post in my responses above. All reports - at least prior to Aiyuk's injury - have been that he and Bourne have been very good this camp. Most of the beat writers who have mentioned a "best" WR of training camp have mentioned one or both of these guys rather than Taylor. Still too early to say they should have taken Hamler.
If Aiyuk isn't getting clear go to WR receiver type hype vs the likes of Trent Taylor and Kendrick Bourne, then that's the indication there's a problem. KJ pulled his hammy the other day, which they're saying will take four weeks to recover, so maybe Aiyuk can make up some ground.
Aiyuk may have also pulled his hammy. We'll see.
You may be right about what we should expect from Aiyuk, but it's still moving the goalposts from your prior statement. Shanahan's offense is notoriously complicated, and Aiyuk has had an abbreviated offseason to digest it. And he's consistently looked like the best receiver out there according to reports. There wasn't much buzz about Samuel last year, and he panned out. It's really early to make a determination on these guys. Unless you've already made up your mind, of course.
As for Hamler, he's the type of guy who is going to look really good in training camp, but could struggle more in pads and under the lights. I think they're both talented guys, and there's little doubt that Hamler is the more electric player, but he's got some question marks, too.
