Some of you are out there with these ideas that Simmons should be traded for Wiggins or that Simmons should gain 30 pounds of muscle like it's not problem and suddenly become Blake Griffin. I personally think it's a rather simple fix. I think the right type of players need to be put around Ben and Embiid. You can't have Al Horford and Tobias Harris out there with them. I also think Brett and company have been too soft on both of them. We don't need the top three players in the game plus Embiid and Simmons to win a title. I think Ben Simmons just needs to be turned the hell loose. Give him the keys to the team and let him go nuts. Between him and Embiid, it's a one two punch and everyone else is along for the ride to give support and hit shots where and when they are needed. Ben Simmons should be averaging 25 ppg right now along with damn near a triple double. Embiid should be the most dominant big man in the game. The reason this isn't happening is because of the leadership in place at positions like...well...Head coach. You have a complete dumbass for a GM in Elton Brand that signed two power forwards to max contracts and now we want to play Simmons at power forward.
So....Before we go crazy with the trade ideas, lets see what this roster can do without Brett Brown, without Elton Brand. The owner Josh Harris doesn't seem to care either way as long as his pockets stay fat. I think we need to hire a different coach though. I think we need to absolutely find a trade partner for Tobias Harris. I think young guys like Shake Milton, Zhaire Smith, Furkan Korkmaz, and Thybulle need to continue developing. We're about to get swept by Boston and a lot of you are just assuming that the same exact thing would be happening had we had a healthy Ben Simmons for this series. I vehemently disagree with that assertion on so many different levels! I believe Ben Simmons is the most important player on this team for us.
The thing about this season is that nobody was really able to stay healthy. We had stretches where we were without Embiid and then Simmons had his issues. This whole season has just been a crapshow, but I don't think trading Simmons or Embiid is the answer just yet. Lets try and move some of the pieces that don't fit first. We're going to regret trading either one of them. You can't solely rely on Embiid to carry a team right now, and Simmons is a flight risk once his contract is up anyway. I can say this confidently though...Neither Ben or Joel have peaked yet. That's something to think about.
