Some of it isn't all because Adams lacks ability. His overall effort and desire has been comically bad this series. There have been so many times he's stood on or just outside of the block while a Rockets player drives to the basket and shoots an uncontested layup. He might half-assedly throw up an arm to make it look like he's contesting, but it's all for show. He's also continually watching Jeff Green, Tucker, or whoever he's guarding catch the ball behind the perimeter and making less than zero effort to closeout and contest.
I can honestly say I've been a proud member of the Steven Adams fanclub since day one. Unfortunately, his game has not evolved to keep up with the ever-evolving NBA. He's not a starting caliber center anymore. He can't shoot, he doesn't protect the rim, and he's a poor help defender. He's a big you bring off the bench for 15-20 minutes per game in certain matchups, and in other matchups you just don't play him hardly at all.
