Bam leads the Heat in assists in the playoffs, AD is the best big in the NBA capable of scoring 40+ in a playoff game, and Theis shoots the three and is making $5 million this season.
If Mitch can lead the Knicks in assists per game or space the floor while making $5 million per or score & defend like AD, sign me up.
I am talking about defense
They know how to play defense without costing themselves and their teams. Mitch aint nowhere close to them.
I'd say Mitch meets and exceed Theis.
I mean, I love all the Mitch hate for the aggravation it causes Shammgod, but Mitch is still good, even if this is his ceiling.
What needs to stop is the automatic assumption he'll find another level, something I've been guilty of, and a general overrating of his defense, which is great, but doesn't automatically make his entire game great.
Which is ironic, since these arguments is what drives Shamms' Frank bashing, but they hold true for Mitch to a great extent. Obviously he's been more impactful and was drafted lower.
Ultimately, depending on his development (which could still occur, though overstated), Mitch is kind of a young version of the story Donnie Walsh said about David Lee: "Sometimes a player is good at one price, but not at another"
Good teams have shown their is a role for a player like Mitch, but not unlike running backs in the NFL, it's less valuable, isn't generally a franchise spot, the players are cheaper, drafted lower and the position is filled by committee.
At the right price, Mitch is a keeper for any team.
*parts of this post influenced by the blog on Mitch*. Obviously.
