I think Giannis was against the sign n trade of Brogdon and he just went to Lasry and said "I told you so, now what ? You gonna go cheap or will you gonna go ALL IN for a ring ? Cause I'm going ALL IN for 7 years in row... Are we on the same page ? If we are ... show me "

Yeah, we heard that one before...
Can't see them spending big $ with the big drop in revenue this and especially next season, plus the future cap ramifications if they decide to spread that revenue loss over multiple seasons' caps. You're going to have contract costs going up significantly each year with no cap increases making it tough to fill out the rest of the roster.
Yeah, the owners want to win but they also want to make as much (or lose as little) $ as possible.
I don't know. From a monetary perspective, it makes more sense for them to dip into the luxury tax and build a team that can win a title. Winning a title and keeping Giannis in Milwaukee is a far better scenario for their bottom line than being cheap, not winning and having Giannis leave. That would sink the value of the franchise.

The problem is we don't have the assets to go all in on anything. This puts a lot of pressure on Horst to work a miracle, and I really can't see it happening this offseason.

Giannis meeting with Lasry to discuss the roster you say?

I'm obviously all for the luxury tax, but sometimes refusing to pay it can help you avoid big mistakes. Gotta choose the right players if you're going to be frugal though. Personally I wasn't a fan of all the crazy gymnastics they went through to keep Brook because he didn't have Bird Rights. Could have kept Brogdon instead of signing Brook and RoLo. Then you could have had the full MLE instead of the room MLE.
I'll believe it when I see it re: the luxury tax. I suppose I can be a little less skeptical of Ersan trade ideas, but that's as far as I'll go until the ink is actually on the paper.

This is now like the third straight year that a Lasry has confirmed they’ll spend the luxury tax.

Yeah, its more about Giannis expressing his complains about the the Brogdon move than anything else. Its not even about being at the same page , its about being on the same planet.
The most irritating thing is not being able to get the 23M trade exception from the Brogdon trade.
We lost the player , we lost a 20+M trade exception and all we basically got is #24 in probably the weakest draft class of the decade or more

As much as i like a lot of Brogdon's game, he isn't the kind of guy that we need to put us over the top. He's just more of the same. The guy can't really shoot on the run. The only shot he can create for himself is a floater or a layup. Otherwise, he's just a catch and shoot specialist. Would his leadership ability, his calm demeanor, and his 3 point shooting have helped against Miami? Yes. But we need a true creator and i'm glad we didn't shoot our wad on Brogdon.

In a second.
Dame
Beal
Kemba
Booker
Will give up literally anything besides Giannis to get any of these guys. No price is too high. Don't think we have the assets to pull it off though.
It works in the trade machine. Steep price to pay for Beal and taking on Wall’s awful contract, I think Washington seriously considers that offer. You hope Wall comes back with something left in the tank.

Would be interesting to see how much they would pay by spending money now to win and keep Giannis vs what they’d lose if Giannis left and the Milwaukee Bucks plummeted in value overnight.

It may be the 3rd straight year. But we are now just one year away from Giannis walking.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

The easiest way to pay the tax would be to use Ersan's contract in a trade....Probably for CP. Then use the midlevel to sign someone and bring back Sterling Brown and maybe Pat C as well. I'm too **** at math to figure it all out, but I would guess once free agency opens up there is a sequence of moves by us similar to this that we do immediately.

There's literally zero evidence that Giannis was "upset" about the Brogdon sign and trade.

Re: Giannis Thread - Met with ownership pg 6
And again, a Brogdon signing prevented Hill and Brook from being here (something that EVERYBODY, especially journalists) seem to have forgotten. They didn't have bird rights on Brook and once they decided to waive Hill to save money on his contract, lost his rights as well. If you keep Brogdon and Hill on his original contract, you are paying Brogdon $21 million and Hill $20 million and are deep in the luxury tax (and have no center).
Giannis said "run it back," Horst said "Ok, we can either lose one guy or two" and the math made sense.

It would have been more like a 12m trade exception but yes I'll always be mad about this.

Yes, not getting the TPE is the only truly upsetting thing about the deal, and is bush league John Hammond levels of CBA understanding.

Giannis could also be worried that if he signs a supermax, they'll try to dump salary to avoid the tax.

This is correct, Giannis wanted Brogdon bsck
The Bucks didn’t want to pay the luxury tax
ESPN reported that Bucks ownership would pay the luxury tax at the start of the Eastern Conference Finals. Ultimately, Milwaukee chose flexibility, assets, and immediate savings by deciding to trade Brogdon to the Pacers.
“Definitely wish he was still here,” Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo said. “One of my friends, one of the guys that I always teased every day when I see him — call him ugly, we’re just going back and forth. I’m going to miss that, but at the end of the day, you got to do what’s best for you. I wish him the best, I wish his team the best and I’m excited to play against him.”
Added Antetokounmpo about his Saturday matchup with Brogdon: “That’s my guy. It’s going to be weird. Played with Malcolm, I think, three years — my fourth, fifth, and sixth year — yeah, three years. Big part of our team’s success last year. It’s going to be weird seeing him in a different uniform.”

That's not what that means.
Guess Giannis must still be mad that we traded away his best friend MCW, right?
