So if you get a new coach how much of a training camp will there be to practice new offense and defense?
Doc may be deserving of being fired for poor game management.
But you also have to question the roster too. The supporting cast may not be as good as forecasted.
Just a few issues:
1. Lack of playmaker. Kawhi can have great stretches of carrying the team. But in the playoffs, he often manufactures offense by hunting for fouls driving into the paint. Refs usually put him on the line a lot even though he’s initiating contact most of the time. That worked last year and has worked for the most part this year.
But in the fourth quarter when Clippers didn’t even make their first FG until 5 minutes left in the game, Kawhi in transition drove straight at two defenders in front of the basket hunting for a foul call. He Euro stepped right into them, lost the ball and looked for the call.
He gets those calls a lot but you can’t expect the refs to bail you out when your team can’t generate legit offense.
2. Harrell gets 6th man of the year but he struggled in the playoffs. He’s got high motor and has overachieved despit being undersized for the 4 and 5. He can finish well with his explosiveness and toughness but he’s a defensive liability vs. certain matchups.
Of course Jokic played out of his mind, shooting way above his career avg. from 3. So Clippers had to defend him at all over the court not to mention his playmaking.
3. Beverly is a nice role player and a fan favorite but he got way overpaid. Maybe still not a big deal since Ballmer can pay luxury taxes to fill some holes.
But if they give Harrell a big contract or try to retain Morris or Johnson, they probably won’t have cap space for say a playmaker?
Doesn't matter. Cultureneeds to be changed. if not for next season, then the season after that. There's no way kawhi leonard is going to stay here with doc being part of the culture. He has to go. Hopefully they sign and trade trezz, lou, and trade patbev.
