Imo he gets like 1y/25m from the Heat before that happens.

I think Heat do everything they can to keep him.

What’s everyone’s opinion on DJ Augustine? Seems like he could be a good target as an FA especially if we part with one or both of Bled/Hill. Trading for CP3 and getting Augustine as a backup?

I don't think you're gonna pry fresh lottery pick prospects like Sexton and Garland away for cheap, and I sure as hell wouldn't feel confident banking on 21-22 year olds developing into championship-level playoff performers in the next year or two. Until he signs on the dotted line, you have to look at this as a one-year window. That's just the harsh reality that we're in right now.

I like him but he probably asks for (part of) the MLE. We can probably find someone who can offer 90% on the min. The MLE should be reserved for the Gallos and Bertans and Grants. Might take some convincing but the MLE should get you a really good player in this economy.

DingleJerry wrote:I hadn't thought of Cleveland before now. Either of those guys could be much cheaper options to try and acquire someone before he breaks out big time. Big salary match issues are gone then too. Yes, it would require them probably moving on too quickly from recent high picks. But Cle usually isn't smart and those two guys do overlap quite a bit in skillsets so it is logical to possibly split them up, especially if they have their eyes on another G in this draft(assuming they have a high pick). Maybe there's a poor contract we could take back too to help.

The obvious big contract is Love, at which point you definitely need a 3rd team involved (GS or BKN are the two that come to mind). Otherwise theyre actually in pretty good shape. I dont think theyre anxious to move Nance.

Gallo is gonna get a hell of a lot more than the MLE. Don't get why people think he's a realistic target unless we're doing a sign & trade with OKC.

Yeah I think Cleveland just chill. Maybe they take a flyer on someone very cheap like they did with Drummond.

If we're looking for young point guard talent this year's draft seems like one of the better options. Obviously can't trade away any of our win-now pieces, but packaging #24 with an unprotected pick gets us in the lottery for sure. Haliburton definitely helps right away and Hayes has positively contributed as a pro in Europe.

Say the Heat pay Goran something crazy like 1 yr 30 mil this year then he turns around and signs a 1 year deal with them in 21 for the vet minimum. Does the league investigate and slap them for circumventing the cap because it would be obvious they had that handshake agreement to overpay for a year then take nothing the next year so the heat have cap space?

How motivated do we think the Cavs are to deal Love?

I think he very well might get a massive 1 year deal like people are saying with Dragic. If that doesn't happen though there just aren't many options. There's only 6 teams expected to have any cap space this offseason:

Atlanta
Charlotte
Detroit
Miami (until they re-sign Crowder and Dragic and then they're probably done)
New York
Phoenix

Not sure how many of those teams will want to give a big contract to him as a 32 year old with durability issues. Certainly wouldn't be shocked if someone gives him a good deal but I wouldn't be shocked if he's roughly a MLE guy either.

Don't think they'll attach assets to move him but other than that, very.

This is interesting. Have to move Bledsoe to a third team, GS? Throw Cleveland a combo of Ersan/DJ/Robin.

I’d take back our ‘22 1st and try to pry another 1st.

I'm not so sure about that but I'd do it in a second if it's possible.

Out: Dinwiddie, DAJ, TLC

Cle In: Dinwiddie, TLC, 24

Sign Burks or Moore and try for Giles.

Sexton/Hill
DDV/Burks or Moore/Wes
Mids/Osman/Wes
Giannis/Giles
Brook/DAJ/Giles

Love this kind of thinking right here.

Trade Giannis for the final year of his contract, getting buttloads of young players and draft picks in return. Re-sign him after the season.

(note I used the word "re-sign," not "resign," because the latter makes no damn sense)

If we're serious about winning it all next year I think moves like this would be our only shot. Get overpaid vets like Love or Griffin, hope they have enough left for one last push with renewed motivation. I don't think any of the other moves being talked about really move the needle at all. Like yeah I like Patty Mills, but I don't think he's gonna be the difference in a series with the Celtics or Lakers.

Sam Amick lives in/around Sacramento & is pretty tied in with all things Kings. This brings me hope.

“Bogdan Bogdanovic is a restricted free agent, and I guarantee you that Bogdan is looking at this situation now and just simply deciding, ‘Am I really buying into this?’ You can’t really blame him if he’s somewhat skeptical just because of all of the turmoil and the change.”

I'd love to roll the dice on him, but his contract is such a killer. Love is already 32 and has 3 more years left on his deal. We would have to lose Lopez in the process too.

Much rather go after Blake. Only this year and next year and helps a bit with our playmaking problems. I am just not sure if we can cobble enough money to get him without losing any of our guards.

1. Brook/Robin/Hill/Ersan/DJ for Love and Osman
2. Giannis at 5
3. Somehow swap Bledsoe for smarter PG who can shoot threes
4. ?????
5. Profit

He's very hard to get in S&Ts due to the BYC.
