I think he can. Got a lot of faith in that dude. Already a WAY different player than he was when he first got drafted. Testament to his work ethic.
I honestly believe Jaylen Brown, if he remains healthy, will surpass Jimmy Butler. He has the right mentality and the natural tools to succeed in this league.
I agree. Brown is doing way more at his age than jimmy did at his age and for some reason some people doubt brown can be better one day........I don't get it.
Nothing against Jaylen, but to be blunt, you could probably say the same about a lot of players who are not, were not, never became, and never will become nearly as good as Jimmy Butler.
At Jaylen's age, Butler might not have been putting up big numbers, but by advanced stats he had become one of the league's best two way players. If we're talking instincts and IQ and defensive ability, Butler was already elite (or was at least on the verge). Jaylen is a very capable defender but has never been statistically elite and is actually coming off a statistically poor showing on defense this season, his instincts might no longer represent a weakness but they are far from a strength, and even if he is no longer as TO prone he still just isn't the ballhandler and passer and overall crafty player that Butler always has been. Butler's A/TO ratio was nearly two to one; Jaylen's was under one to one this season.
Like, Jaylen has the pieces to put together, and he showed some great progress early this season, then in the playoffs I felt he not only showed progress in terms of his skills, but also in terms of mindset and maturity. But if he had ever bought into the casual fan's notion that he is comparable to Jimmy Butler, already as good even, I hope to god he's been watching these finals and realizing that he's got still a **** of work to put in before he gets there.
