Agreed.

Fitzpatrick is well known for being extremely hot and extremely cold. Taking a 6 game sample size and ignoring his decade + career is a real goofball way to look at the world. Give me the guy with the 27 TD/2INT season and the Big Fat Super Bowl Ring on his finger.

Yeah, I don't like Fitzpatrick either, but looking at a season 7 years ago and using it as a benchmark today in sports when you have had 7 years since then to show that it isn't repeatable, sustainable or expected in the future is a terrible way to look at anything.

Like I said, you could just group their aggregate numbers and Foles comes out on top. I agree we're not going to get Fitzpatrick, and we shouldn't want to get Fitzpatrick, and there's no reason to think Fitzpatrick is better.

career QBR (since its advent in 2006):

71.9 brees (9201 non-handoff snaps - age 27-41)
71.2 brady (8446 - age 29-43)
67.9 rodgers (7233 - age 25-37)
66.9 wilson (5051 - age 24-32)
64.7 big ben (7689 - age 24-38)
63.0 ryan (7874 - age 23-35)
62.1 rivers (8576 - age 25-39)

57.3 stafford (6554 - age 21-32))
56.9 newton (5375 - age 22-31)
54.6 fitz (5687 - age 26-38)
52.2 foles (2091)

Foles has a better TD/INT ratio by a decent margin, better completion percentage (barely), better QB rating (barely) and loses in QBR (barely). I don't know, Looking at their numbers over that time, I'd take Foles, but it's enough of a wash that I sure wouldn't go out of my way to acquire Foles if I had Fitzpatrick or the other way around.

Familiarity with our system is probably enough of an advantage for Foles to say he'd fit better with us than Fitzpatrick. Either way, these guys are both pedestrian QBs.

Football related although not Bears related but ND has a D lineman named Kurt Hinish and somewhere VDN is thinking "I coached a point guard with that same name."

I think this Bears team is just better off being an underdog. Maybe last year they bought into their hype too much with Club dub and stuff like that. Not sure if they do that this year.

No way they're trading for a CB.

The only thing that would help this team significantly, IMO, is if they were able to trade for an elite offensive lineman that made a big impact on their line play on that side of the ball.

Agreed but I'd add a RB + interior DLineman who's proficient at stopping the run.

I honestly don't think the line is *that* bad https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/nfl/offensive-line/2020 but they seem to be getting worse, not better.

I think an impact OL is thee move. There's nothing that will make a bigger impact. I didn't like the Bears OL coming in, I haven't liked it all season. That is one area where I'll give Trub a bit of a break - he rarely had time to stay in the pocket. Combine that with him not being able to make proper reads, it's a disaster.

I think David M could be a top 10 back with a good OL in front of him. The Bears deep ball would definitely go up in terms of efficiency as well.

Surprised you're still a Rams guy, I thought most of the fans disowned them with the move.

We tried. But it was just too weird “deciding” to root for a new team. One son tried to be a Packer fan, one a Bears fan and I tried the Chiefs on for size. It didn’t take. Lasted about 3 weeks. Felt fake. Though I have to admit, it’s also weird rooting for a LA team. I’ve spent a lifetime as a sports snob looking down on their fair weather superficial fans.

Also, I blame St. Louis as much as I do Kroenke for the move. So I’m not as bitter as most down here.

I have no idea how I would feel in that situation. I think one of three scenarios would be most likely:
1: I'd just stick with them.
2: I'd become a fan of the sport in general and cheer on whomever is interesting on a year by year basis.
3: I'd stop following the sport closely.

I can't imagine a scenario where I'd pick another team and follow them even when they were lousy though as if they were my home team.

Aaron Donald vs Rashad Coward scares me to death, but if the Bears can keep him from wrecking their offense, and that defense is able to get pressure on Goff, this is a game they should win. The only Rams' wins this year have come against the NFC East, which is shaping up to be the worst division in NFL history.

Goff has 0 TD's and 5 INT's in two career games against the Bears.

I'd probably still be a Bulls fan for example if they moved to another city.

I think it's also comes down to the length of time I've been a fan too. It's hard to just drop them, unless they gave me an ethical or moral reason to do it.

About right. Another factor with sticking with the team is the players. I liked them and liked rooting for them. And they weren’t the ones who decided to leave.

possible subtle effects from COVID?

the most interesting thing coming into this season was how brady and belichick would fare w/o each other. advantage brady, though the pats have a lot of COVID opt-outs

abandoning my "the bears would be better if they had signed newton" take. still waiting to see if history validates my "if the bears were going to have a crappy qb, at least newton would have cost less than foles" take

Why not a Cardinal fan then? Blame Bill Bidwell?
