I think the management just showed that they are not afraid to invest and that they want chips!

If these guys don't hold our players accountable, I don't know who will!

They finally realized that the saying "If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." is also applicable on basketball.

Since we are already here, how about Hinkie as VP of basketball ops?

I don't think Morey is going to take a chainsaw to the roster. He'll work the fringes and probably grow and defer the second round fruit tree but I think the objective will be to be patient on any Horford deal to the deadline and even try to pump and dump Tobias if he can get anywhere near his Clipper version. A lot of long term things to like about Morey but the short term benefit should be that he won't make a shortsighted panic move to get off either one of them before the season starts.

Some interesting facts
- he knew there’s going to be a pandemic (back in december) before it happened so he was already hoarding
- he talks alot about tech and science as “layers” to his interviews. This avoids him getting in sensitive informations
- he believes the league and the fans wants to showcase worldclass athletes, and league has to allow spacing (shooting 3s) to make it happen
- he is not a big fan of adjustments, but his actions are based on relative info like data on opponent, data on refs and etc.
- he believes that basketball has the most predictable outcome in a game in any sports

Role players:
I expect us to go after guys who are undervalued by other teams. The way I see it, I expect us to go after guys who have average at best defense and creating shots but are very good to elite on shooting. Guys like Tyler Herro or Duncan Robinson type players. If there are guys who can create, shoot and defend, sure why not.

Core players:
I can see a possibility of Morey shopping Tobi, Jrich, and specially Al on teams that may value them on small market teams that may value them such as the Knicks, Kings, Cavs, Charlotte, Detroit and etc. for cheaper alternatives and picks to go after first tier players.

Top Players:
if morey can’t see Biid or Ben can’t be as first tier of players (i’d guess MVP candidate) then he’s going to trade one of them. He’s a guy who believes that you need a first tier player to win a title.

Overall:
I dont see us going after CP3 or Oladipo where we have to outbid other teams

We can be critical of ownership for presiding over a circus for nearly a decade and still be excited about Doc & Morey coming in. We're fortunate that two high level candidates were available when we desperately needed them, and that ownership *will* spend money. Money is and hasn't been an issue (and never should be, given what these guys paid for the team and what the valuations are now).

But that doesn't excuse Harris & Blitzer for letting themselves get pressured by the league to force the Hinkie resignation. Or force the Okafor pick. Or turning the team over to the Colangelos when we all knew that was a mistake. Or giving Elton the green light to sign Harris and Horford to albatross contracts.

If we're to believe our insider, ownership meddles in basketball decisions far more than they have any right to. Hopefully that changes with the talent they've brought in this fall. I trust Morey & Brand and Doc to make the difficult and correct decisions.

Right. I don't get why anyone is gloating on behalf of ownership. They've been plenty terrible for years. Were we not supposed to criticize that?

This team has been the favorites in the east for the last two seasons. Real life NBA executives, real life NBA scouts, ex-NBA players, most of the media outlets that covered the NBA, the biggest Sports media Analytics like 538 and ESPN, and even our own board have believed that (prior to hindsight bias). We are better than most contenders when it comes to top end talent.

While the ownership has never been just satisfied to make the playoffs unlike 90% of the teams in the league, since day 1. And are willing to lose money (tanking seasons) and spend money (highest payroll in the league) just to win the championship.

This is the biggest reason why Doc River and Morey decided to sign with us, given their experiences with bad owners like Sterling and Tilman.

Im not saying they are perfect or maybe even great. But they are better than most of the owners in the league.

You don’t agree with me. Then let’s just agree to disagree.

I couldn't agree more. I think we need to wait and see how things play out under this new regime. Obviously the talent to win is there, so I think it would be wise to temper the expectations of an immediate Tobias/Horford trade. If the team responds to Rivers the way I think they can, then we should be playing at a fairly high level and winning games. If we're looking like a legitimate contender and things are working, then I doubt any trade would be made. With that said, I think each and every player on this roster is on an unspoken one year "prove it" deal before things do blow up. It's not going to take long to see what exactly we have next year, but put me in the category that believes Brett Brown was a bigger part of the problem. I think at some point he lost the team and that was that. So, with that said, i'm absolutely more than willing to see what Doc Rivers and company can do with this current roster before calling it a fail. Morey being on board gives a secure feeling that when and if a deal does go down, we will not be on the losing end of it.

if this is them learning from their mistakes and allowing the smart people run the show...then yeah they deserve credit for it.

If this is just them again going after big names that people know except the hardcore fanbase actually likes those names this time..then eeeeeeh.

Morey obviously sat down with Harris and Blitzer at some point. And considering he is friends with Hinkie, I have to imagine he had a in depth conversation with them about the inner workings of the team. Morey isn’t some noob, and while obviously the buck always stops with ownership... guys with Morey’s track record aren’t taking a job just to take a job. There would have had to be assurances about autonomy over basketball ops and outside interference being kept to a minimum.

The bolded is wrong. These owners didn't lose money while tanking, they made money due to Hinkie's creative cap shenanigans.

Your arguments lose credibility when you do this.

Any word on whether there's going to be a press conference?
