Not that I necessarily believe this journo has inside scoop, but is a bird in the hand better than two in the bush?
By that I mean, would trading for and extending Giannis and Bam now be better than gambling we can sign him next offseason? I know Rex will have his thoughts on this (and I'm pretty sure I know what he'd say), but would a deal around:
Tyler Herro
Kelly Olynyk
Andre Igoudala
Pick 20
2 x future FRP's with low protections
Be enough to satisfy Milwaukee THIS offseason for a deal, theoretically?
Would suck to part with Herro and the picks, but it does secure you the guy. Lakers did it with AD and that worked out pretty well for them (they traded Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, plus the following picks):
#4 pick in 2019
Top-8 protected in 2021, becomes unprotected in ‘22
Unprotected swap rights in ‘23
Unprotected first in ‘24
Unprotected swap rights in ‘25
Would then be on Riles to go vet shopping and find the right pieces to help us now.
I don't see any package we can do that doesn't include Herro though, sadly. He'd be the hometown kid in Milwaukee.
