Damn, then Ainge really blew it not moving up last year. About half a second after the Celtics lost the coin flip with Miami for the 13 pick vs. 14 pick, I realized if there were any plans to draft a Kentucky player, that the Riley link to Kentucky would have Miami zeroing in on the same player if that was the direction that the Celtics wanted to go.
I also figured that Erik Spoelstra was sophisticated enough to keep their interest down if they were targeting a Kentucky player, since Miami knew in 2019 that the Celtics had the draft capital to jump to the 11 or 12 spot; and showing interest would make it easier for Ainge to sell management on giving up the 2020 Celtic and Milwaukee picks (along with the 2019 #14) to move up to 2019 #11 or #12.
Romeo Langford is the same height as Tyler Herro, but with a broken shot. Tyler Herro is not only the best free throw shooter in the history of Kentucky basketball, and an excellent 3 point shooter while at Kentucky, but he also had an extremely good weaker hand. Could make shots with either hand. And he's high IQ and boxes out. It's not even close comparing Langford to Herro. It's slam dunk for Herro. And saying Langford was injured his last year of college didn't offset the fact that his shot is broken.
Now Ainge is trying to save face by trying to move up this year, when he clearly should have done it a year ago. That not only would have gotten the Celtics into the Finals, but they might have even won a Championship this year.
Don't expect much success moving up unless they offload someone like Gordon Hayward or Kemba Walker for a pick in the 4 thru 8 range.
