A 30% deal for Giannis Antetokounmpo would start at $34.5MM
Miami Heat 2021-22 Salary Cap Table:
- Jimmy Butler $36,016,200
Tyler Herro $4,004,280
Edrice Adebayo (Cap Hold) $12,788,730
Duncan Robinson (Cap Hold) $2,122,822
Ryan Anderson (Dead Cap) $5,214,584
KZ Okpala $1,782,621
Kendrick Nunn (Cap Hold) $2,122,822
Andre Iguodala (Team Option) $15,000,000
Chris Silva (Team Option) $1,782,621
Kelly Olynyk (FA) (Cap Hold) $18,285,000
If we keep Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson, KZ Okpala and add the salaries of Jimmy Butler and Adebayo, we have a total of $61,929,237. Now, adding Antetokounmpo's $34,500,000 we have a total of $96,429,237. In the end, we have $18,570,763 for any other free agent. However, we could get rid of KZ Okpala, which increases that amount to $20,353,384. If we bring in a player whose salary or cap hold exceeds that amount, he has to sign a year for $20,353,384 (if acquired on a trade), or he has to sign a two-year contract with a salary of $20,353,384 in his first year. If Gordon Hayward is interested in leaving the Celtics and opts out this season, the Heat can frontload the deal plus a player option or Miami can offer the largest signing bonus allowed to sign Gordon Hayward along the lines of four-years, $90 million. This also applies to any free agent and will keep Miami flexible to sign Giannis Antetokounmpo in free agency. If Anthony Davis wants to sign with Miami this season, we have enough money and it opens the door to a trade with Milwaukee focused on Adebayo to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Our options are many and we have a good owner in Micky Arison who is always willing to pay for a good team. We are building a dynasty. The question boils down to, how much is Micky Arison willing to spend?
