If there’s a prospect I’d want to trade up for its Okongwu. Has Bam written all over him. Nigerian kid too
I'll be bold and say Lowry gets traded to the Hawks tomorrow night and we draft Okongwu.
I like the boldness but I think Lowry is not going anywhere. Listen to Bobby on Tim and Sid when he basically outlined our core team: It starts with Lowry who is being continually doubted by people that he can’t continue to play at a high level and then he said Fred, OG and Pascal are all key. So, yes I am assuming they re-sign Fred and that makes the PG side of things less of a driving need.
When Sid was asking about 29 and needs to fill on the roster with free agency, Bobby spouted that BPA is how the team decides picks. He went further to say that this year is basically weird. Talked about short-time to get prospect ready and considers it important that the guy they draft is healthy and ready to go.
To me that points to a big that would be plug and play. I think they'd love to get Tillman or Tillie or both.
To me, you can use Killian Tillie as an undersized C and survive in the modern NBA. Averaging 40% for four years from three means he is a legit stretch four/five. He is healthy coming in and a high IQ guy that knows the game and is basically a rotation player from day one. A guy who is similar and could fall to them is Jalen Smith and you could easily see an Ibaka type of role for him.
Maybe a bit ahead of both is Xavier Tillman. He is rock solid as a rotation big and will be good within Toronto's schemes. Adds a toughness that is kind of missing with Toronto and his playmaking is well known at this point. After watching a few interviews with this guy he is just so high character that he cannot fail.
As Nurse mentioned before, they need some wing depth, so I think they tackle that at the end of the draft or trade up. Powell would make sense to clear him off the books and add to that area of need. I'd be impressed if they got a 15-25 pick for Powell and maybe Davis and selected Saddiq Bey. He'd just be an awesome fit in Toronto.
At 59, get a versatile guy like Naji Marshall to play SF/PF or Kaleb Wesson or Nathan Knight to play PF/C to round out the bench.
FVV/McCaw
Lowry/Watson
OG/Bey
Siakam/Marshall
Tillman/free agent big Harry Giles or Nerlens Noel
