Was there a player on the board that is someone who is was going to be an actual "difference maker" this season? Are the Bulls in a "win-now" situation? No and no. Is there a player on the Bulls that actually prevents the selection of Patrick Williams? Doubt it. Watching tape of this guy I see that he will be the best defensive player on the team from day one. He's got more spring and quick-twitch than Carter, but since they play different positions, to me Carter Jr. still starts, but, let's see Lauri or Porter Jr. beat out Patrick Williams for playing time.
The stuff this kid is doing on game films is stuff I've never seen Markkanen or Porter do. I'm giving this guy a shot. He will improve offensively, he is 19 years old! I'll also take Williams' ceiling over Lauri, Okoro, Hayes or Toppin. Last thing, there will be trades still. AK has no loyalty to a bunch of underachievers and failed picks, he will build the team his way. Don't be surprised if AK flips most of this roster.
I don't think anyone actually assumed that AK was some sort of "god", but rather a significant upgrade to Gar-Pax. Did anyone really want a 22 year Obi-No-D-Toppin? Avdija, we will see, but I was never feeling that. There's a reason he dropped like a rock.
So many fans want it both ways, Gar-Pax sucks, but they like Markkanen, Carter and White. Then, they get their way and replace GarPax with AK, and they turn on him after his first move picking Williams. Can't have it both ways...
P.S. Oh, and say Goodbye to Chandler Hutchison soon enough. Expendable.
