We have a very competitive and balanced roster and have set ourselves up well for next off-season to make a run at Ginannis.
I say just re-sign WCS on a one-year deal and start the season with that.
We also have some nice trade pieces if an opportunity comes up before the TDL.

Will people forget about the Giannis thing already. It is not happening. The dude doesnt even practice with superstars and now all of a sudden he is going to join someone else to form a super team. Give me a break.
We are going next year to pick up some other Free Agents

Our realistic team now is:

C - Marjanovič
PF/C - Powell, Maxi, Porzingis
SF/PF - James Johnson
SF - DFS, Josh Green, Tyler Bay
SG/SF - Tim H. Jr, Josh Richardson
PG/SG/SF - Luka Dončič
PG/SG - Brunson, Tyrell Terry
PG - Trey Burke

The two guys in green I wouldn't bet they will see much playing time. Depends on Rick. So that is 12 + 2 guys. I expect one more veteran to join us on a 1-year deal and considering the slot.

I am not counting DFS as someone who can effectively cover a PF, more like a desperate move

Also, our first line up for the start of the season should look something like:

Luka
Tim Hr. Jr
DFS
Porzingis
Powell
(Although I think Powell will / should be replaced soon and I think he will be a problem. He rellies just on athleticism and he is coming off an Achilles = problem)

You miss the key point, "make a run for Giannis".
Doesn't mean we'll get him but the Mavs are structured very well right now and have given themselves at least a chance to compete this season while not handcuffing themselves to at least be fairly active next FA. People forget that things change drastically in a year's time so keeping options open (or powder dry as Donnie says) is a wise move on their part.

The Mavs are much better on paper with cap-friendly contracts and can play ball next off-season.

Not much more to say

Maybe they're just waiting for the outrageous prices to come down before they go sign one. I believe Denver has only $6M left to spend. We have $9M. If Milsap wants 3M more, he knows where to go.

Paul Milsap
Jae Crowder
Bismack Biyombo
Nerlens Noel
Tristan Thompson
Ersan Ilyasova
Patrick Patterson
Taj Gibson
Joakim Noah
Moe Harkless
Boogie Cousins

One of those guys is bound to sign for the MLE or below the MLE when the market dries up. Not everybody is like Detroit handing out $60M contracts. So the market for these guys, they'll have to settle for a realistic figure or a one year prove yourself type of deal. if KP plays 35 to 40 mins, you're just looking at 10 mins of bench time. One of these guys on the cheap should do.

Most of the others have various skills that we could use. Millsap and Crowder may be asking too much. Taj Gibson is done. Ilyasova is interesting in that he really spreads the floor. Cousins may just be a Boban duplicate given his wheels.

Did WCS sign somewhere while I slept?

Still out there. Worn surprise me to see him re-sign with the Mavs for a 2 year deal with a team option. Ibaka would be perfect if we can get him for the MLE

I'm not sure the Mavs have to have a big man now. I could see this going a couple of different ways.

I think they do need one but thank goodness centers are a dime a dozen these days and can be signed about any time during the season. KP and Powell are still big question marks as far as I'm concerned and I think it would be wise to have some insurance at that position.

I'm still baffled as to why they didn't, or just don't re-sign WCS. He seemed to fit well and it sounds like he's had a great off-season.
Perhaps he is holding out to see if he can get a decent deal far better than we can afford or get someone's full MLE on a team that will give him an opportunity to play.

Maybe WCS wanted to see what the market was and maybe the Mavs wanted to play their more important cards first. At any rate, we'll know soon. It would be fine by me.

Yeah, and they are probably looking at using vet min for insurance at center instead of using the MLE to address that need.
At least they probably should be.

Tim Cato says they have about 6.5 mil left of the MLE and only 13 out of 15 spots taken. Another big man is likely.

Moe Harkless signed in Miami for one year 3.6M.

Wish we could have gotten in on that. It's a one year deal for a 6'9 defensive type.

Apparently there is some discussion about John Collins availability after the Gallinaro signing. If I'm the Mavs, I jump at that if there's any way possible. Unfortunately it would have to be some kind of trade with picks or something creative.

No significant aquisitions for Mavs this year?
What's about THJ? Will he stay?
What's about Lee? Will he return or is it more possible that he change the team?

Brad Townsend
@townbrad
A source tells me that despite recent-day guard additions, the Mavs plan for fan-favorite
@jjbareapr
to return for his 12th Mavericks season -- as a player. That indicates to me that another guard could be on the move, but don't hold me to that part. Just looking at it logically.

I’d love to sign favors, would fit in nicely.
If there is any chance for collins, offer anything but luka and kp.

You guys seem to forget that Giannis isn’t the only FA in 2021. It’s a really deep class. So even if Giannis stays in Milwaukee or signs with Miami there are plenty of guys that would improve this team. They could even split that max slot between two players. 2021 is not ALL about Giannis. He’s the ultimate goal but not the only option.
