We have a very competitive and balanced roster and have set ourselves up well for next off-season to make a run at Ginannis.
I say just re-sign WCS on a one-year deal and start the season with that.
We also have some nice trade pieces if an opportunity comes up before the TDL.
Will people forget about the Giannis thing already. It is not happening. The dude doesnt even practice with superstars and now all of a sudden he is going to join someone else to form a super team. Give me a break.
We are going next year to pick up some other Free Agents
Our realistic team now is:
C - Marjanovič
PF/C - Powell, Maxi, Porzingis
SF/PF - James Johnson
SF - DFS, Josh Green, Tyler Bay
SG/SF - Tim H. Jr, Josh Richardson
PG/SG/SF - Luka Dončič
PG/SG - Brunson, Tyrell Terry
PG - Trey Burke
The two guys in green I wouldn't bet they will see much playing time. Depends on Rick. So that is 12 + 2 guys. I expect one more veteran to join us on a 1-year deal and considering the slot.
I am not counting DFS as someone who can effectively cover a PF, more like a desperate move
Also, our first line up for the start of the season should look something like:
Luka
Tim Hr. Jr
DFS
Porzingis
Powell
(Although I think Powell will / should be replaced soon and I think he will be a problem. He rellies just on athleticism and he is coming off an Achilles = problem)
You miss the key point, "make a run for Giannis".
Doesn't mean we'll get him but the Mavs are structured very well right now and have given themselves at least a chance to compete this season while not handcuffing themselves to at least be fairly active next FA. People forget that things change drastically in a year's time so keeping options open (or powder dry as Donnie says) is a wise move on their part.
