Two questions on this:

1. - Do we have to S&T with Boston or can we just trade a player like Rozier or Zeller elsewhere to get under the cap?
2. - Is stretching Batum a good or bad thing? I ask this bc I hate "dead money" and would hate to have that lingering for 3 more years, but do see how it lessens the hit.

Chances of out-tanking Detroit, OKC and even Pelicans potentially were low. I would love a top 5 pick, but we need to see this thing fully play out before freaking out.

We're probably better than DET, WAS, and maybe even CHI now. That hurt us.

We go from 40% chance at a top pick if we 5th worse to 26% chance of a top 5 pick if we're 8th worse.

That matters.

Why are you so sure the players want to play on a crap team? Weren't we talking about how much progress the team had made and should have been invited to the bubble? Now, we are acting like they are the Knicks??

We were last year and we added Ball already and another year of our guys developing. More likely we moved from 8 range to 12 range.

Dude, this is the most Knicks move imaginable. Overpay for an aging one time all-star when we should be tanking an additional year.

I also personally never said this team has made a bunch of progress. We were statically the luckiest team in the league last year and still had 8th worst record.

Hayward averaged ~4.5 assists per 36 last 2 seasons. You don't mentor a guy from the bench, you mentor him from the court. We can't just draft high lotto and expect them to develop. There's only 1 Lebron every 20 years.

Kemba is more damaged goods than Hayward. What's the big deal? I don't want an undersized PG over 30 with high mileage signed to a max.

Roizer and Zeller for Westbrook now? Guess nobody wanted Batum

If we are paying Hayward all that money might as well pay Russ as well and try to get from 8th to 5th in the East or something :D

Small markets have to overpay for free agents, that’s common knowledge. This precious cap space you guys want to save, who is it for? Move Zeller or Rozier to get under the cap, let Batum expire next summer and you will have cap room to sign a good player, but there wasn’t some Mac guy walking through the door next summer. You guys do badly want to tank fir a high pick that may not not pan out and if he does, that’s probably 3-4 years down the line. My goodness. Give Melo some weapons now and let’s roll!

I like it. Rozier, Zeller, Batum and Monk for Westbrook.

Melo
Russ
Hayward
PJ
I like it better than what got the Pacers to a 4 seed this past season.

you know how we could've overpaid better? next year where we could've potentially had space for two max contracts in a much better free agency pool along with the rookies and a high draft pick.

what just happened is inexcusably dumb and derailed any chance of a quality rebuild.

mitch blew it. unless one of these rookies turns into a top 10 player in the league, we're done
