What makes can he still make that you would consider an improvement for this team and a step towards title contention?

I’m not joking, I’m genuinely interested in hearing what the opposite side of the fanbase has to say.

The question u should ask is what he could do to piss people off

There's nothing. I didn't know they sold kegs of Green Kool Aid

Im not even sure Turner would be enough to get us to the finals. The only hope we have is if one of these young players takes a big leap.

Ainge is a walking failure at this stage.

The only shot this team has this year is if Tatum becomes a top 5 player. Other than that they're ****.

Danny Ainge did blow it. Pacers beat writer for The Athletic said Hayward was willing to go to Indiana for 100 million 4 years but Celtics wouldn’t do the deal Turner and Mcdermitt

Maybe he was concerned he was making the Pacers a better team in their own conference. It’s a valid concern but he should have done it anyway.

Or maybe he thinks Myles Turner is crap and so is Dougie. No point in making a move you don't like just to save face with your fans.

Here's the thing: there is not a whole half of the fanbase who identifies as "Team Ainge". It's a strawman, and believing in it gives false color to your perception of the debates that are going on.

For example, is a poster who thinks Ainge took a justified risk, and failed, "Team Ainge" or not?

That's about where I'm at. We have limited paths for improvement. Hayward for Turner + McDermott either makes us worse, or improves us only very marginally due to roster balance. We were only even considering it to try to avoid the worst outcomes, not because we actually liked it.

I think Ainge saw this as one of very few remaining chances for materially altering the team's trajectory, and tried for it.

He failed. But I don't mind the attempt.

And there's no chance an Indy beat writer would ever try to pass the buck on to Ainge ......ever

Him leaving with getting nothing back is unfortunate, but that's the way the bee bumbles. You need 2 to tango.

Zero chance at a title and no moves in sight with no cap space coming is great. Next season is going to be about hoping the Lakers don't repeat and they have the best chance already. Good times.

I guess I approach life a little differently.

If he really wanted to play for the Pacers, he could have sign for 4/100. This has nothing to do with Ainge.

Obviously we're getting mixed messages about what Hayward was and wasn't going to do. The second I saw Ainge wanted warren or oladipo I said he was asking for too much.

Had he just done the deal for Turner and McBuckets it would have been done. I don't think anything's going to convince me otherwise. Danny tried to turn the screws to the pacers and it didn't work out for anyone besides Charlotte and Hayward.

Not true, according to some here.

Don't know if this Pacer guy is credible or not, but the way the week played out certainly points to this being exactly the case. If Hayward wanted the money, he could have agreed to the Hornets offer Friday. Also, many, many credible sources including Woj, said the Pacers and Celtics were continuing negotiations into the weekend. That means Hayward was waiting to see if the Pacer deal could be reached. Danny gets greedy and Hayward's agent knowing how stubborn Danny is decides it's a lost cause and advised him to go to Charlotte. This version of events is quite feasible.

I'm still on team ainge but he **** up 2 year's in a row. There is only 2 moves that would be left for fans and players. Sign it and Giles doesn't move the bar much in play but locker room would be happier take a flyer on that forign guy Will magnay. And admit you blew it ainge allso make your story great Because we heard most the excuses and it won't set well with same excuses

And there were just too many sources saying the Mcdermott/Turner deal was there. Hayward waited and Ainge couldn't deliver.

The guy is an Indiana beat guy who worked at the Athletic and probably is tuned in with Pritchard.

To try and discredit Agness yet give props to Gary Washburn is hypocritical.

Ainge blew this. There really isn’t any other scenarios at this stage.

Boston and Indiana could have been set on a trade while Hayward could have been the one holding up the deal. He could have been waiting for Indiana to up their contract offer or taking his time to see if anything else opened up with another team. Nobody knows a damn thing..

Ok, which do we have a realistic shot at getting? I’m going to say Baynes.

Return to Boston Celtics
