I think the best duo defensively is Walton/Kareem and it isn't particularly close. This pool does not have many stretch 4's or 4's who are true game changers outside of the paint. Having arguably the two best defensive centers in the pool in Kareem/Walton is going to be a nightmare.

I don't think the eligible versions of Kareem have a case for being the best defensive C in this pool.

Peak Walton does, but I would assume Bird is using 1986 SMOY Walton here.

You may be right about Kareem but he was still brilliant defensively in 1980.

Why would Bird ever use 6MOY when he can use a top 15-peak when just about every other team has just 1 top peak? That would be Bird punting this.

I'm already second guessing the Walton/Dirk pick but I picked Dirk because he creates a bigger mismatch offensively and the center position is very deep in this.

I might be missing something obvious but since you can only use them in the year of the title, it might be worth considering doing a quick change on that one.

This might be one of those times when my complete disregard for letter of law puts me in the minority, but in my opinion the whole competition is best if we let him do a repick. It's not like we need to uphold justice or teach him a lesson or something. Just my POV, but probably alone there.

After getting insanely lucky with draft position in the last draft, it is only fair I get one of the worst draws in this one. Those duos at the bottom looking mighty fine. And MJ/LBJ are always tough to top. Might just go for a fun team!!!

Yea being one spot below Lebron/Jordan, while the teams at the bottom got combos like Kobe/Dirk feels like an uphill climb for me...

We have stuck to the rules of not being allowed to change picks in the past, it actually prevents drama since it's so black and white. I also think LA Bird meant to take prime Walton.

That's fair enough. I guess it depends on the level of trust among the participants. We can go with whatever the rules are for now, but maybe worth consider for future games? I don't hold people to the flame unless they are my enemy.

In this draft I would say having top-end talent matters more than specific positions.

Yeah, proven combination, all-NBAish, not terribly expensive. Higher end talent is going to dry up quickly, pretty much the reason I went with Pau.
