The Spurs wanting him has to make everyone feel a little more optimistic about this. If you believe that Williams is the guy (and as Dinwiddie said, has no ceiling) then you're better off just taking him and not risking losing him by trading down. In my mind, you couldn't really have gone wrong with Deni, Halliburton, or him but obviously, AK and his scouts have a better grasp on this stuff than any of us could.

Of course, that doesn't make the answers right or wrong, just something that I think is interesting to consider.

I was #1 in the trade down camp! I'm just saying there is no guarantees there WAS any good trade down options. Obviously AK didn't think so. The detroit trade down WASN'T an option for us.

The great thing about Detroit trading up to 3 or 4, is that after they trade up, they would then have to trade down. Because you’re supposed to trade down.

This should be the post to end all post regarding this subject... wouldn't Detroit be doing the exact same thing you're accusing the Bulls getting wrong :banghead:

That’s the way I feel as well. The Spurs wanting Pat Will makes me think if they see a “Kawhi-type” player in him. A player who’s a humble hard-worker with elite athleticism and many physical tools & skills, but raw.

I have faith with the new staff, otherwise if it was the old regime, I wouldn’t be that much confident in player development.

This guy wasn't an unknown. He was a fairly high profile recruit and had a better freshman season than his lottery drafted teammate (Vassell). The Warriors front office (I'm a GS fan) had him as a trade down target months before the draft.

Vassell was seen as the more polished, ready made player because he was a year older. Williams was seen as a bigger, stronger Vassell with more upside. He was just "greener" than Vassell by 1 year. In a relatively weak draft with lots of questions marks about even the highest rated prospects, he was boosted by his upside.

No doubt a lot of front offices figured that he's basically a higher upside version of Vassell minus a year of development in college.
Brian Geltzeiler: You see Mark Jackson getting a head coaching job as early as next year?

Adrian Wojnarowski: Not if people make calls on him. Not if an organization is doing their homework and knows all the things he brings with him.

I was skeptical with the pick at first because I didn’t know much about Pat Will. But if he is in fact AKME Top 3 or even #1 ranked prospect you don’t risk trading down just to get an extra pick, especially when you know teams are after Pat Will. Regardless if mock drafts have him ranked lower than the 4th pick, as long as you know you did your homework, trust your gut.

On number 9, gotta say, too soon. And Lu is another guy that should be in the organization.

This, I didn't even remember Lu wearing it until people here pointed it out, it's always been Ron.

I get being excited but I would lower my expectations significantly if I were you. The most likely outcome is that he becomes a solid 3D role player with good rim protection. That's nothing to sneeze at but obviously not a star.

Better to set expectations low and be pleasantly surprised.

Yes, but Detroit may have been willing to do it and we weren't and my preference would be to let Detroit do the thing I didn't want rather than the Bulls.

Patrick needs to assert himself much better and become more aggressive in real games. Seems to settle rather than take advantage of situations.

About all the Trade down talk.

If your Player is available at your spot you go and take him. You trade down if
- you like 4 Players and can be sure to get 1 of them
- the returned value is 100% better than the value you give up
- there is no Player available at your spot you like

You don't Risk losing your guy for being greedy, you take him and call it a day.
