Even when we made the playoffs regularly and had KG we had problems getting free agents. Some of that was no money but still, we got turned down left and right lol. Yea I think we have to have a very good team for at least a couple of seasons to turn heads. I'm hoping shooters see Beasley, Juancho flourish in our system and it opens some eyes.

Good work IMO.

Solid.

Looks like one helluva deal doesn't it?!

I have never seen the kind of player turnover and upgrade in talent, that we've seen since mid last year.

Kings are a mess...horrible move. Bogdanovic has all star potential in him.

Not that we are still shopping, but in theory does this make one of their wings more attainable? Personally I would only consider Reddish and I highly doubt he is remotely available for what we would offer. The other option is do teams who were 2 guard shopping now come calling for Beasley

That's because you're a Timberwolves fan. Hopefully times are changing.

But is it the weather?

Another factor that should be considered in addition to the water and the losing is the fact that Minnesota has the fourth-highest state income tax in the US. Only California and Oregon are higher among states with NBA teams (also Hawaii and New Jersey).

Thank you! It clears a bit situation for non US fans. So basically if NBA player look at MIN he sees:

1) 4th highest state income tax
2) unpleasant weather (even though I enjoy snow)
3) rebuilding team with playoff
4) one of the oldest stadium in NBA (??? not sure here)
5) bad organization image, thanks to Thibs and Butler

Am I correct?

Basically. You could argue this is why waiting another year to go 'all-in' could be important. Try to at least improve 3 and 5.

Yep which is why prospective new owners want to move the team away from Minnesota.I don’t blame them because I would not want those extra hurdles to achieve a championship. I’d support this team wherever they go though:/

The bad image is far before Thibs and Butler. In fact, the year that we made PO is one of the few years that gave us good image.

Yea the bad image has been around for a long time. Also, even KG made comments about how low class the organization seemed compared to the Celtics (some of that could have been him being salty but I bet there is truth to it back in 2009).

We just have been behind the 8-ball all over the place. Our prestige has probably gone up a tiny bit with some things like our awesome facilities but still, we are a low rate franchise. Most of that changes if you start building a winner. Doesn't have to be a title team but just a really good team with title potential. Doesn't mean we will have players eating out of our hands but we will have an easier time.

Continuing this thought, I think it's why Rosas has gone the route of trades and developing youth. This will never be a free agent destination. But that doesn't mean a winner can't be formed. We've got the San Antonio Spurs as the perfect archetype of this model. How many big-ticket free agents did they sign in their 20-year run?

Wolves are in an even tougher spot since San Antonio has WAY better winters and no state income tax.

Those two factors are HUGE, especially to players that haven't experienced Minnesota outside of flying in, being cold and flying back out (and haven't had a chance see the good parts outside of the tough weather/income tax hit).

Read on Twitter

Jones received a delivery of chicken wings during a break before a final pitch from the Minnesota Timberwolves. After an encouraging meeting, Jones could envision himself as part of an organization that treats its players holistically, styling personalized nutrition, sleep and recovery plans.

“They made it a little harder,” Turner said after the call. “Just because I can tell they’re so creative. They’re different. I like that.”

“That made me start thinking a little bit more,” Jones said.

“They helped themselves a lot with that,” said Anthony Wells, Jones’s trainer, who was also in the hotel room.

“It all sounds good,” Jones said before listing some of Minnesota’s immovable components. The team featured a franchise player in center Karl-Anthony Towns; plus Malik Beasley; the No. 1 overall draft pick, Anthony Edwards; and the former All-Star point guard D’Angelo Russell.

“That’s four players ahead of me that’s going to touch the pill,” Jones said.

This is why I'm not freaking out about the overpays. I think its really important we establish an identity and get this team moving forward. We need to be creative, we need to make players want to be here, we need to create a culture of excellence.

He was one of the main free agents I wanted. He would have been really good here.
