In the meantime I am looking for a suitable quote to update my sig but my current one is hard to top.

It means different things all the time. Basically he has decided he is a guru of physical form, but where he used to use the term 'bowlegged' for staying in a low defensive stance, now he uses the term 'hip bend'. He has decided that it also means something on offense, though I'm not sure what considering the best standstill jumpers and 2nd jump athletes basically pogo-stick with very little flex. Maybe he means keeping a low dribble on the drive. Not sure. Newly he has decided arch in the lower back is important, and also a high elbow on the jumper. But it seems to shift around since he makes excuses for players he likes that do not seem to match players he has spoken against. But mostly I don't bring it up because to do so will mean a page long thesis with little to no punctuation and very definite opinions on something that to me seems the biometric equivalent of phrenology. I like seeing WizD on here, but there is only so much hip bend I can take. Which is surely why I am not an NBA player.

Deni definitely needs more strength and bulk than he has now. Agree that too much bulk could affect his speed and athleticism. But he has a ways to go before reaching that point.

Can anyone actually think of examples of this happening, someone hitting the weights hard and putting on so much muscle that it hurt their athleticism?
In the NBA I am having a hard time thinking of examples. First of all it is hard to put on a lot of muscle through weight training in a short period of time. Secondly getting stronger generally helps your athleticism.

I felt he bulked up too much and lost a step as a result. He looks more svelte now.

I certainly never saw him as being bulky, or losing a step.
He did seem like he had a bit of a belly once. He also played hurt a lot. I think any perceived loss of speed is more likely due to his numerous injuries that he tried to play through.
. Smart had been working hard, but his diet fell into the cycle of late-night junk food, a source told Celtics Wire earlier this summer. Smart admitted to enjoying a little too much late-night food when he hit the podium Monday, but has overhauled his diet since.
“Those challenges are coming in late, [restaurants] aren’t really open for you,” Smart said. “The only things that are really open are the fast food restaurants. But my body has adjusted to it. So even now when I have my cheat days, I try to eat a burger or something, and it comes right back up. My stomach is telling me, ‘We’re not doing that anymore. You need to get rid of that.'”
Smart hired a chef this summer to help this dietary overhaul, and said he ditched fried food for the delicious flavors of the Mediterranean.
“Dates are great,” he said. “I love them

Disagree, he already has Major stiffness in his lower back which prevents him from quickly arching his lower back while rising for a jumpshot. That right there will probably takes years to fix if ever. and adding bulk to his arms and chess will decrease his fine motor coordination especially for shooting three pointers and free throws. The only weight training he should be doing is with a specially designed 40lb weight vest for basketball-called VMAX.
He probably should practice lateral agility with weight vest and jump soles with the balls at the bottom. Adding Bulk will ruin deny. HIs biggest strength is his elite hip bend, ball handling, and growing upside coordination with his left hand. He should focus on bulking up so that he can push people out the post. Lateral footspeed using jumpsoles and weight vest is all he needs. Shooting jumpers with jumpsoles will help him with his form.
