Media day comments from Sam and Coach D. I'll be listening throughout the day and make some notes over stuff that I didn't read on twitter and approximate time stamps.
Sam's comments:
18:40 5-Doesn't expect the team to have the same level of sustained success (averaging 50 wins a year) over the next decade since it hadn't been done before.
21:00 Saw Poku and Maledon himself on a scouting trip to Europe.
24:30 He compares Poku's work ethic to KD and says " I don't know if Poku has that. We're going to find out."
24:50 starts discussion Shai as a central figure and that his growth won't be linear but will come through adversity.
29:50- History is not going to show a lot of players that became effective NBA players at a high level if they don't get to play. Discusses Serge's development and then Lu.
39:45- Mentions having guys like Muscala and Hill can provide a road map for the young guys for becoming professionals.
44:00- Leaf and Jackson are two guys the thunder have followed for a long time.
In summary, he talks a lot about the challenges presented by the pandemic. He shifts to discussing young guys and their development. He makes lots of references to the past. Unless the above points interest you and you enjoy hearing sam talk, it was kind of boring.
Coach D
3:00- in answering question about Shai's role of being a pg he say's shai will have more opportunities to create but doesn't necessarily mean he'll be bringing the ball over half court.
7:30- lots of praise for Diallo.
10:00 comments on Bazley.
12:00 comments on Poku. Not much significant said.
16:50: talks about the thunder "onboarding process" for new players in explaining the environment and tradition.
I don't know if he'll be a good coach or not but he's well-spoken. Like Sam, he mentioned not rushing the process more than once.
18:35- Dort and Jerome comments. Nothing significant.
