Pooh_Jeter wrote:The proof will be in the TV ratings and the attendance/merchandising numbers which isn't possible since the NHL season just started and the baseball season is a month and a half away. This is how predictions work, of course the numbers while the Raptors were the toast of the town were strong. If I took the 2015-16 Blue Jays numbers they would clearly eclipse the Raptors. The Leafs outdraw the Raptors 95% of the time when it comes to TV ratings even when they are good.
TV ratings work in trends, you don't see the ratings drop all at once. Because the Raptors may cede their territory on top to the Leafs and Jays doesn't mean they will suddenly be left without fans or support.
"The Blue Jays on Sportsnet averaged 500,000 viewers in 2020, up 23% year-over-year, and reached 9.8 million Canadians (27% of the population)."

I believe so far this season the highest rated Raptors game was at 635K.
You can disagree with my point, but at least understand what my point is first.
You have no proof to substantiate your claim. You don't live here. You know nothing of the culture, conversations, and general sentiment that define the urban/exurban spaces of this city. You have one metric from a season that's hardly 10% complete. We're in the middle of a global pandemic, the raptors have been forced to play at the other end of the continent, they're struggling, we're not happy, and this is your contribution to the discussion. Claims that they've "lost the city", OUR city, not yours. This team means a lot to some of us, you know. They've been with us for the majority of our lives.
Your point was they have "lost" a city that adores them, of which you know nothing about. Then you cry victim, rather than just own your terrible take and concede that there are people on this board who know more about this than you. Worst of all, you implied we had "rich parents" because we were able to go to games growing up. It's called 500 level in the skydome, sprite zone in the ACC and haggling with scalpers in the freezing cold. Of course you have no idea what any of those things are, but "wealth" has nothing to do with them, I guarantee you that. I've worked with communities at the margins for a decade. I can tell you that the raptors have not "lost" any of those children, their families, or the support of those communities.
You're an outsider, a fraud, you're not a fan of this team, you don't care about them, you contribute nothing positive or insightful to the discussion. Nobody wants you on this forum.
So I have to ask,
Why are you here?
