We got into this debate many times, but I pointed out that he was arguably the worst shooting player (FG% wise) to be drafted in the past 15 years. That was a major red flag, and he's done nothing to alleviate that concern.
He is what most people were expecting besides the people who got caught up in the high school hype. Can he improve? Sure but like wiggins it will take years..maybe never.
Actually no, most of us who defended him are pretty accurate so far. The biggest concern remains the 3pt shooting %, but I'm not that worried about judging him after 14 games this year. Last year's 33% is a fine number for a rookie. Those who liked him said that he has a lot of tools and can be a high upside candidate that pushes him past many of the other guys around his range.
He has interesting monthly splits. He really is all over the place, which inconsistency isn't crazy for a 20yo 2nd year guy (look no further than Coby). Every month you get a different Reddish. Some he is great and others he is terrible. I think he has some sort of mental/confidence issues. But he's already a better than average wing defender that many expect to be a really good defender long-term so you hope he continues to sort the other side out.
I felt the need to defend Reddish after people said he wasn't a first round pick and whatever other crazy opinions. Many said (maybe you two?) that he didn't even belong in the league. The Hawks still start him and play him 30mpg. I thought he was worthy of a top 10 pick because of the upside. He was relatively high floor with potential path to a high ceiling. There were a group of guys bunched together (Garland, Hunter, Coby, Cam and Culver). I had him ahead of Culver but behind the rest who I thought were all pretty close to equal. So far, he's been about that.
And let's be honest, no one from that group has pulled away from the pack. Look at the picks everyone talked about in that range and tell me if he should have been picked of the guys projected around there: Culver, Hayes, Doumbouya, Hachimura. You can even throw in Goga and NAW who got a lot of love specifically on this board (I remember all the Goga posts begging the Bulls to grab him). Reddish goes ahead of all them in a re-draft (maybe not Hachimura?). I know Herro and Washington broke out from that late lotto range, but no one on this board was talking about them.
