Age isn't really a factor. Health really isn't either, they both have their issues with that. I get the position thing because it's hard to build around centers these days, but Embiid is so much better than Simmons that it really shouldn't be much an issue either. Embiid's on/off numbers over the last couple of years are straight up comical, the Sixers are garbage without him.
If I'm the Sixers, I'm trading Simmons right now. He's been their 3rd best player this season at best, hasn't developed his offensive game since his rookie season, will be a huge offensive liability in the playoffs until he expands his game and he's still seen as some kind of star player. At this point, he's mostly a versatile defender (good) who excels in transition (good), but he has 0 offensive game beyond that. He still can't (and won't) shoot from anywhere but right at the rim. You just can't be star in this league without a versatile offensive game (unless you're a complete freak of nature like Giannis, I guess, but even he struggles in the playoffs).
Morey isn't dumb. Of course you trade Simmons before you trade Embiid.
