Assuming it would have been Ben Gordon.

I'm surprised there wasn't more to be honest. BG could go off, Deng occasionally and the last year he was here he had Gasol and Butler. Rose was actually the 3rd leading scorer on that team.

Giannis is the guy with limited scoring help.

Sometimes I dream...That he is me
You've got to see that's how I...dream to be...I dream I move, I dream I groove...Like Mike....If I could Be Like Mike...Like Mike
Oh, if I could Be Like Mike
Be Like Mike, Be Like Mike
Again I try... Just need to fly...For just one day if I could...Be that way
I dream I move....I dream I groove
Like Mike....If I could Be Like Mike
I wanna be, I wanna be....Like Mike
Oh, if I could Be Like Mike

Agreed, Giannis is surprising because Middleton is a good scorer, he usually blows up whenever Giannis is not playing.

Bulls could have had SGA... a need at the time, great pedigree player whose basketball IQ jumped off the screen - MCW with a jumpshot and a better build... (note, I was in on SGA at the time, to include at 7 -- you can go back and look at the pre-draft threads... so this isn't just hindsight... )

Instead, the Bulls drafted WCJ...

Sigh

The Bulls were always going to draft a center and a small forward. The Jimmy Butler trade netted them their future point guard, shooting guard, and power forward. That was their story and they stuck to it, by drafting WCJ and then Hutch.

I think we might have passed on MJ that draft, to pick a center instead. I'm not quite serious there, but close. The organization deeply believed that the Bulls had received three future cornerstones in the trade. Such are deeply held convictions; they cut both ways.

On a separate note - are we not going to talk about LaMelo Ball's 24p/10a/7r, 7 for 12 from 3, team high +29 +/- per basketball-reference....

He was a boom/bust prospect.... Boom is looking very, very likely. Anyone who said "certain bust" should acknowledge that they were wrong, and proceed with humility in the future.

Also Edwards starting to string together nice games, like last night's 22/4a/2r + 2 blocks, 2 steals, only 1 turnover... he's been "solid enough for a rook" or even "good" for the vast majority of the last 10 games...

Well LaMelo sure looks like the best version of a free-form playmaker since.. Kidd. Immediately opens up the floor with his handles and vision in a way Rubio and Lonzo could not, and he’s got an extra flair that Simmons lacks. Kudos to that RealGM guy I kept calling crazy, who was hot on LaMelo (and Lonzo).

He seemed a bit spectrum to me in a Snell meets Nick Young kind of way, but then I saw that Aaron Brooks interview where he really straight-faced said he’s a surprisingly down-to-earth, cool, good kid. And I kind of had this feeling maybe too much was being made about his character and work ethic.

There was this point where I figured “if AK takes LaMelo, it’s gonna work out.”

I just think we’re gonna be at a point where a lot of traditional metrics aren’t gonna make sense anymore. I was high on Haliburton; several experts thought he’s a ceiling roleplayer. Well- it’s becoming apparent that whatever the old idea of star potential was, it’s not the same anymore.

Honestly, I don’t think Lauri and Wendell were trade-up chips. But 1-2 were available for a price, and Coby, future FRP, etc could’ve been offered. My 2c; the LaMelo tour in Lithuania was bad, and Artunas probably heard back from his countrymen than the Ball family is trouble.

Anyway... Right now LaMelo is the best player in the draft. But I don’t think WCJ and RFA Lauri had any draft day appeal to any of the 3 teams picking ahead.

Is Blake Griffin officially done now?

I havent been following it closely but he was an allstar 2 seasons ago. His numbers were down in a short season last year but this year, they are horrible.

The Nets are repulsive. Nobody ever shows up to play, they treat the regular season as if it's not worth their time. The team is now 14-12 but will have 3 Eastern All Stars. I would give them Durant and have the other two guys pound sand. Especially Kyrie. The last time he was the best player on a good team was in high school. Well OK, 10 games for Duke. That's it.

Yes. He's a statue. I always liked him, both as a player and person. Unfortunately, his body gave out early.

I think so, this was supposed to be his comeback year this year. He supposedly was looking great in the offseason and he's just sucked.

Derrick was sprightly in his Knicks debut. He looked excited to be back with Thibs, and with a team that is getting better rather than worse, as with poor Detroit.

Why do the Knicks jerseys look like the Eiffel Tower at night?

You were kind enough not to mention the Heat jerseys. (Although I confess to liking them.) I'd be happy if teams had three jerseys. One home, one road, and one each year's special. That would be enough for me.

I sure hope we can still sign Rose in the off-season.

I think we have more concerns now than backup PG. But I have no issues bringing him back at a reasonable salary.
