I'd take Toppin out of the deal for starters. It might be as little as that, as a change.
Even though the 2021 draft is so good, I might put in the Knicks or Dallas pick - Dallas, if it would get the deal done, so Knicks maintain having a draft pick in 2022.
It's still 3 FRP's and a high 2nd.
If that's not enough, I'd let the Knicks go and enjoy their drafts.
It's Obi, 2 1st round picks (neither likely to be lottery picks), a pick swap (that would be unlikely to occur), and a high 2nd. How could you not do that? it's the Bulls who would laugh us off
we'd be getting Lavine w/o giving up: RJ, IQ, Randle, Mitch, our 2021 1st, Mavs 2021 1st.....those are all our most valuable assets that we'd be keeping (minus Obi, who I'd say is less valuable than the assets listed). the second we acquire Lavine, that 2022 1st becomes less valuable b/c we're most likely a playoff team
I read the pick swap as a pick trade - so I misread that. But if it was, that's 3 picks. And a high 2nd.
With that trade, you'd have to assume that a "core" of
IQ/Lavine/RJ/Randle and whoever the Knicks probably pick around 12th this year is a "strong contender" because there won't be much in the way of assets to improve the team, without trading the assets already present.
I know LaVine is going to cost, and I acknowledged Knox and Frank are in for salary/sunk costs of the Knicks.
What I perceived was 3 FRP's and a high 2nd AND Obi was a little steep.
I'd rather have a little more flexibility left over. I just pivoted to giving up a pick in 2021 instead of 2022, and keeping Obi. And I was assuming the 2024 pick goes out.
