Stack was an inefficient volume scorer. I wouldn't compare Zach to him. The Stack for Rip trade was not approved by Pistons fans initially. And for that team to eventually become a champion, there was a lot of luck involved as well. Who knew Billups would become that good? They were relevant for couple of years before that because they already had Ben Wallace who became the staple of that team with his defense. In our case we don't have anything besides Zach Lavine (and Pat) that's worth hanging on to.
If there is anything we want to take from that Pistons team, is that they didn't tank. Instead they built through FAs and trades bringing in established veterans (Billups, Corliss, Rasheed), with some luck in the Draft picking late first and early second (Tayshaun, Okur). I'm all for it if we're going that route. Keep Zach and Pat, and bring in established players, and do our homework in the draft.
Yeah Stack was a career volume chucker 40% FG and 30% 3P. 52% TS.
Lavine is at what, 65% this year?
It's like comparing Monta & Steph Curry because both are small guards that shoot off the dribble. Ignoring the fact that Monta was a terrible shooter and Steph a great one, at 66% TS.
I don't really blame Stack either, at that time it was a thing to construct teams with just 1 scorer and 4 defender/rebounders, like the Iverson Sixers. Who went all the way to the Finals with that formula. Iverson wasn't exactly a Kover-esque shooter either.
