Thanks! I've been lurking for decades. I opened this account the minute I found this Beal link that says we MAY actually consider trading him.

Happy to be here.

How is it clearly wrong, pif? You think Hachimura and Brown have any value other than being cheap bodies? I'll let you in on something...they don't have any value.

And I didn't say they had negative value...that's Bertans.

Right -- sorry....

As to Rui & Brown, we can agree to disagree. I think either one would bring a 2021 R1 pick. It's easy to forget that Troy Brown is still only 21 years old & played extremely well last year. & Rui would draw a lot of interest too -- esp. given the marketing package he brings.

I can't imagine any team would give up a 1st for Brown. He barely plays for a last place team, and when he has played, he's been awful. Nobody's forgot his age or what he did last season, but what he's done this season is more important. Things could change at some point, but right now Rui has far more trade value than Brown.

Yeah, that's pretty much what the market has established following the trades of Davis, George, Jrue and Harden.

I guess for those who want to do the exercise here are the teams supposedly in contention:

Beal’s desired teams include the Pelicans, [Dallas] Mavs, [Miami] Heat, [and] the LA teams, per a league source.”

Don't know how reliable the source is but here's the link.

Could just be gms talking **** to the media to whip up trouble. Like of if we tell this person that we've been given an asking price knowing full well we have not gotten one. Maybe beal will be pissed and feel hurt and want out.

That seems to be as reputable a source as Breitbart.

The Wizards do not have an asking price, all of this is based on conjecture and responses to the hypothetical question of "what would it take".

When your sources are yardbarker and other click farms it's really not worth paying any mind to.

Furthermore, these "sources" may just be other teams trying to stir up trouble between Beal and management, just as Houston did with John Wall.

Also if the bidding starts at 3 firsts, a young player and and expiring, who says they can't get more. They could. Also ! I'm that the point where if beal wants to stay here if he wants this to be his town. Then let's blow it up one more time around him ditch westbrook how ever we can with out wasting a first move davis and some older guys for what ever we can get and let's put some good D around beal.

Wouldn't trading Beal increase Westbrook's value? Since the offense would need to rely on Westbrook even more? I see some trade ideas that have Westbrook either being traded before Beal, or with Beal. I think the best idea is to keep Westbrook, let him inflate his numbers more than trade him. I think we can all agree his value is at rock bottom right now, so waiting to trade him has no downside. At worst, his value stays the same and we need to ride his contract out/trade him for pennies. Or his value increases and we get a bit more bang for the buck.

Bertans, Hachimura, Brown to Hawks for Collins, Snell, possibly a filler piece.

I think it achieves what the Hawks want all the way around, provided they maximize the talent we give them. If they can get all three guys playing decently well/confidently, then their combined abilities could make up for Collins absence in terms of this years playoff run. They wanted to pay Collins somewhere around 90 million, probably over 4 years, so around 23 million per. The salaries on offer here represent around that value, and there's potential Hachimura could end up being a similarly valuable player to Collins long term if he reaches his ceiling.

For the Wiz, it's minimizing risk of the development of Rui and Brown for the sake of acquiring a long term talent at PF that fits our timeline.

If such a move were to take place, it'd probably be very important to get a Brad for Oubre salary match deal going on, because we'd be in the tax if forced to take on Wiggins in addition to paying a max to Collins.

Hopefully our own top 3 pick + Collins + Minny pick + Wiseman + Deni would put us in a terrific position to rebuild quickly.

I'd be willing to eat a year of paying the lux tax in order to secure those assets if the only way to make the deal happen in the summer is to take on Wiggins, but the problem is due to the Wall trade we wouldn't be able to use a first round pick to move on from Wiggins contract for salary relief--we'd have to offer like a 2027 first given the protections on the Wall pick.

With Bertans off the books, we might be able to pay Westbrook, Wiggins and Collins without paying the luxtax.

Let's see: Westbrook, Wiggins, Collins, Bryant and Avdija total $113M. Our top pick and the Minny pick are another $13M or so. That's $126M. Wiseman is $9M, but I'd like to flip him for another draft pick that might cost $5M. So that's $131M for 8 players. Hmmm. Probably can't stay under.

I could see a Masai-type/ballsy GM talking to Beal this offseason and making something like the ATL trade happen (Sign and Trade).
Bertans, Rui, Brown, 2022 unprotected pick swap for Collins (SnT).

You could argue that Westbrook's value to the team would increase, but his trade value would likely stay the same. Consider he's already averaging near a trip dub, but he still has negative trade value. His efficiency - rather than his production - would need to improve for his trade value to be less negative.

Only if GM's are being short-sighted. Westbrook's problem isn't that he lacks opportunities. Is that he's playing bad. Beal going won't change that. I think pollyanish to believe that GM's would overlook bad play for inflated numbers.

Westbrook’s problem is not that he’s playing bad—it’s that he’s not playing smart often not.

When Russ is shooting those jumpers with 10-15 secs left on the shot clock. Well, yes, that’s bad—and stupid.

But when he’s getting to the rim for layups, finding open teammates for easy baskets or pulling down rebounds. Well, that’s the smart Westbrook that is helping the Zards win.

A good coach would make sure Russ stops the stupid shooting and isos—and priotizes those smart things that helps the team on both ends of the court.

I get what you saying, however, they don't really need to be long-sighted either. Assuming he doesn't get traded for another year, his contract is basically expiring. So they only really need him for one or two playoff runs. Anyhow, just my two cents.

Semantics, also Westbrook has never not shot those jumpers in his career. I'd go as far as to argue that if he's not taking those shots he's not Westbrook lol.
