But they're not nearly on the same level of Nets three stars. Certainly not in terms of playmaking. And recently not even in efficient shotmaking.
Nor should we expect them to be at this point. One of our 3 stars is still on his rookie contract while the other is just 24. And the 3rd star is on the tail end of his prime years with chronic knee issues. The unavoidable fact is that it may be another 2-3 years before these 2 are capable of leading a team to a title. We can try to speed up the learning curve by surrounding them with vets but we are young all over this roster.
Reset expectations and goals. Be fine with just developing Jays along with Timelord, Nesmith, Pritchard, Langford if he ever hits the floor, Grant.
If we manage to win along the way and reach ECF again, I'd be pleasantly surprised. Still hard not to get frustrated watching this eye sore of a team.
Oh 100%
As I replied to you in the other thread, this is the danger or depending on kids. Like Danny said, we're not title contenders right now. We're actually further back in this process than we thought. The natural assumption was that we were further along because we overachieved our way into 3 ECFs in 4 years. Natural progressions says, we make the Finals this year. But we lost Hayward and haven't replaced him yet and Kemba for half his games and added more youth. Right now we are firmly in talent evaluation mode until at the very earliest, the trade deadline, depending on whether or not Kemba makes us believe it's worth taking a shot using the TPE.
Unfortunately for us, a realignment with reality is now necessary. We need to be looking at evaluating the young core guys here to see who's worthy of keeping to surround the Jay's. That means the 2 rookies, Rob, Romeo, and maybe Grant. All names you and I have agreed on.
