I want to know why we had no picks in that draft, but then I also don't.
As many of you recall, in training camp 2005, the team wanted to win now, and they had concerns whether rookie Bogut could handle the load at starting center.
In early October, a young Larry Harris was reading his aggregation of beat writer stories on "HoopsHype.com" and saw that the Hornets/Bobcats were interested in trading Jamaal Magloire. Larry got on the phone and next thing you know, we're sending out Desmond Mason ("Larry's a snake!") along with our 2006 #1 pick.
Of course in May of 2006, we had a chance to deal ourselves back into the first round. On the table was a trade deal of Magloire and Mo Williams to the Jazz for Carlos Boozer and the #14 pick (Ronnie Brewer). Kohl nixed the deal, because he already has Redd's max deal on the books, and was concerned about doubling down on two max (or near max) deals with Boozer.
As a result, we waited until the mid-late summer. Then a poster here "FormerBucksFan" who was related to Ernie Grunfeld (his brother-in-law I believe) showed up to inform us that Magloire was being dealt to Portland for Steve (Fruit the Beer) Blake, Brian Skinner and Ha Seung-Jin. And about 36 hours later, that trade become a reality.
