Bagley for Ish Smith + TBJr works in trade checker.
Go look back at the last 10 drafts for lotto pick big men who were still disappointing underachievers in their 3rd season. Almost all of them remained disappointing underachievers. The only guy that kind of figured things out late was Julius Randle.
At this point in time, he certainly doesn't look like he was worth a 2nd overall pick. But that shouldn't matter to us - it wasn't our pick. Being drafted at 19 years of age, he obviously has a lot of growing in his game that he has to do. I don't believe he has got the right tutelage in Sac-town, especially given his missed time. He was injured with a sprained knee and missed 11 games in his first season. His second year, he fractured his right thumb (he shoots left handed) and that put him out most of the year - he played in 13 games. Then covid came to all of us and his second season was done. This year, his 3rd season, he got injured again, after 37 games. This year is more like his 2nd year in the league, as he's only played 112 games in his career. He can play PF and C. If, for us, all he has to do is rebound and put backs, then he may be good enough for our bench. He may, in fact, with the right training turn out to be better than his current numbers show.
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/baglema01.htmlLooking at his stats... he can shoot 80% on his FT's. He did that last year, so the capability is within him. He can average 50% on FG's and average 10 rebounds. That seems to be consistent through his short career.
He may be worth taking a chance, especially since his price is low right now. Perhaps TBJr is too much to pay in trade for him. I'd like to see what he looks like as a backup PF and/or C for us.
