Here is the Ball trade I would do: Ball plus their pick for nothing. We get paid deservedly for a salary dump

How about Lonzo and Powell?

Lonzo and Trent/Powell would be a dream offseason for me. and yes, I know Trent is in a slump right now.

Trent is why I called him Tim Hardaway. Just a very streaky player.

There are no FA PGs outside of Lonzo for the foreseeable future, so I think if we do make a trade for Lonzo it starts with the Mavs pick.

Reddick
Ball

For

Frank
Rivers
Mavs 2021 or 2023
One of our potpourri of 2nds

- Saves them some money
- Gives them some assets
- Beats whatever the Clippers can offer

Why are we giving a first round pick for a highly flawed point guard who will be a restricted free agent in couple of months?

It puts us in the drivers' seat to resign him.

If you don't like Ball you won't like it. I do value him. I think he'd be a great fit with RJ/Randle and as a defender under Thibs.

Do you think Thibs is going to play multiple rookies 20mpg next season? Going after Lonzo now is to get his bird rights, make a push for the playoffs while staying flexible and addressing a need with a young player who can grow with the core group.

A team in the hunt for the title wants Lonzo, yet you're saying we shouldn't go after him? Help that make sense.

His Bird Rights are the entire reason you make a move for him now. It's very valuable if you are interested in him as a player.

Yup. You get around the hold by moving early to sign.

His Cap Hold is around 27M. It's bigger than his next salary. In terms of cap space, it's indifferent to sign him now or later.

The advantages of trading for him now:
- to make him RFA and be able to match any offers.
- to beat the competition (more teams could be willing to get him or sign and trade for him in Free Agency)
- to win now

By a long shot for me. If we can’t get Powell, I would wait another year and keep the cap space open for Lavine. I don’t want to be stuck with another Tim hardaway 2.0 scenario.

tim was never that talented and never that good of a shooter. and trent doesn't have to be the first or second option. big difference imo.

This is the trade John Hollinger posed in his article for the Athletic:

Knicks get:
Lonzo Ball
JJ Redick
Jaxson Hayes

Pelicans get:

Mitchell Robinson
Elfrid Payton
Austin Rivers
Ignas Brazdeikis
Dallas’ 2021 first-round pick
Lightly protected 2021 Knicks first-round pick

No thanks, Jaxson Hayes is terrible. Hollinger just going overboard, the trade doesn't need to be this complicated.

Their stats are very similar

Tim Hardaway: 16.3 PPG 44% FG 38% from 3
Trent: 15.2 PPG 41% FG 39% from 3

They’re pretty much the same players to me.

Ugh

Shore up PG just to decimate our interior defense. There has to be a deal where Mitch is not involved

Burks + Payton + two 2nd rounders + cash

for

Lonzo + Reddick

Otherwise... they can kick rocks.

Lonzo is not worth Mitch and a first round draft pick. Not on an expiring contract. Give em one of the other "youts" Frank, Obi or Knox plus a pick. Throw in Payton so I dont have to see his fugly self anymore.

Don't trade for him. If he really wants to come here, maybe in the off season as a free agent. And I'm not even that crazy about that. We need to take our time on him.
