In the minds of most of the voters (the idiots of the Baseball Writers Association of America), Wins and ERA are first and second, with peripheral stats (like strikeouts) getting secondary attention.
If it were up to me, ERA would only be a small factor in voting and Wins would be ignored, but that's because I have common sense and Bill Plaschke doesn't.

So then what the hell would you base the criteria on?
IMO:
1. ERA
2. K's
3. K/BB Ratio
4. WHIP
5. Wins

its kind of hard that three of the best pitchers are on awful teams (santana, bedard and haren) or we might already know and the fact there is a different pitcher leading every statistical category also makes it kind of tough
i dont even know who i would vote for....if pressed, i guess i would give it to carmona because he has the lowest era, 17 wins and gives a quality start 80 percent of the time
i dont know, its tough

Halladay should ask for a trade. He's pitched into at least the eight (with three complete games, including one in 10IP) in his last eight starts, with an ERA around 3, but only won one game. If his team actually gave him run support, he'd be around 20 wins. The scary part is, he didn't pitch well initially after he returned from the injury. He missed four starts too. He could have 22 wins right now.

I would love to watch Holladay pitch in the playoffs, such a shame a great pitcher is stuck on a garbage team.
