But good on them for letting him go play towards a new contract while they are clearly in hard-core tank mode. Situations like this one are why I have such trouble with the Chicken Little Buyout guys. Neither side wants to still play basketball for the Magic so working to prevent him getting a better situation makes zero sense.
Very surprising to me that the Celtics didn't somehow snag him. Even a Wagner for Birch swap would've still saved money. Maybe not enough time?
He should've brought something back similar to what McGee did. Cavs did a good job there. But at the same time I won't fault the Magic for now doing the right thing and buying him out even though they couldn't get value for him in a trade.
