I found it interesting when he answered that he admitted maybe the communication could be better (whatever that means, letting Rodgers know about the Love pick?). Seemed like someone that actually wanted Rodgers back and was actively working on that.

It also seemed like he felt, because the Packers are in a good position right now to win, that Rodgers would want to come back, or at least gives the Packers a realistic shot at convincing him to stay.

Communication could have been better is a major cop out. How would this conversation take place?
"Hey Aaron, I know we made the NFC championship game and our defense got run over, but you're getting older and I want to build for the future." Yeah, that communication didn't take place because there was nothing to say.

"Hey Aaron, I know we made the NFC Championship and our defense got three interceptions, but your offense didn't do dick with those picks. Also, you're making a lot of money and you declined an extension that would allow us to free up more cap space, so here we are."

National media has already spent the last several years brainwashing the casual fans into thinking the Packers have done an awful job of surrounding Aaron with talent. I'm not even having the conversation re: "He needs more help!" anymore, which is why I'm not convinced this is about football reasons. Rodgers has clearly always had interests outside of the sport, and my theory is that he's going through some personal/existential crisis now that he sees his playing days winding down.

I just don't see any way that any critical thinking person can envision a scenario where he doesn't end up looking like the egomaniac here. 13-3 team with the league's best offense that's right up against the cap, and just retained your stud RB and LT with big extensions. If the reports are true that he's balking at a restructure/extension to free up cap space, then what the hell are the Packers supposed to do here to placate him? It's clearly not about winning and looking less and less likely that this is about money.

Your offense? Now it’s exclusively on Aaron that we didn’t score. Funny, but delusional.
Aaron definitely didn’t play well there, no doubt. But lots of people are at fault. That would’ve been the ideal time to have another receiver besides Davante who could get open.
Tell me, was Aaron responsible for our other 3 losses in NFC championship games? Or was it our pathetic defense and special teams that let his excellence down? The 49ers didn’t have to throw a pass our D was so bad.

lol

More importantly, do you know why our offense bogged down then?

Elite defensive coaches know how to shutdown the play action offense MLF and the other "whiz kids" run. Why has this offense not produced 1 Super Bowl win? Because it relies on play action and it sucks without it. Dictate to the offense & take away the play action and suddenly it's gutless. Suddenly receivers have to beat there guys and can't do it.

The similarities between MLF and coach Bud are crazy. Regular season champs.

And yet two simple dropped passes cost the Packers eight points that could have won the game. Rodgers not running in for a TD that led to the infamous FG.

No scheme issues there. The game was there to be won.

Let's see if Mark Murphy learned anything from the way he came out looking like a buffoon during the Favre fiasco.

I don't remember the Murphy aspect of that drama. What did he do.

Edit- was it the bribe where they offered Favre money to not come back? I just thought of that and yeah that was dumb.

I know others are more optimistic than me but I so not looking forward to the upcoming game of chicken where Gute plays the everything is fine card and rodgers hints at retirement. Then we'll get a fun round of will he show up for camp that will be a media circus in late July. I hope I'm wrong but I have a feeling well be sitting here a year from now wishing they would have traded him yesterday.

Very torn with this situation. Part of me says, tough sh*t. See you at training camp or enjoy your budding game show host career, but the other part of me says go ahead and deal him. Send him to a poverty franchise. Grass isn’t always greener and maybe he’d grow a new appreciation for an organization thats run about as well as any in sports. If his motivation is truly to win I don’t think he’s gonna get moved to any better situation than Green Bay. That’s pretty obvious, so to me this whole situation is just primadonna garbage. No one is bigger than the franchise. If they move on I’m ready for it.

100% this, I'm digging all the way in if I'm the Packers here. If he wants to stay home then fine, let's see what Jordan Love can do.

The more I think about it the more I think Aaron really wants to get out to the West Coast to start his new life and this just seems like a convenient reason. He has a new wife, who doesn’t seem like the GB type of person. He’s also gotten his first taste of working in the entertainment industry and he seems to like it. He has this convenient narrative that gives him justification to walk away from the Packers and possibly not look like the biggest **** in the room. I know his decision is somewhat about football, but I really think it’s more about a change in lifestyle. Just my thoughts though.

But what good do you ultimately accomplish with this? I fail to see how by winning this battle with Rodgers how you won't lose the long-term war. If they force his retirement right or wrong they will be painted as the villian by the media and a lot of fans, you'll have an agency that is upset with you and you probably permanently burn a bridge with one of your franchises legends. Plus you just passed on getting major draft capital to end up in the same spot. All that just to prove a point??

Also agree. He's an incredible QB but A-Rod seems more motivated by proving others wrong than himself right. He's consistently been taking any sort of criticism so personally that it affects his judgement at times. Not saying he didn't have a right to be a little upset after Love was drafted. Just gets old when guys who are making ridiculous amounts of money act so controlling over a team. He's the MVP of the Packers, but doesn't make up the entirety of the roster.

Would suck to see him go elsewhere but if he's going to consistently whine then I'm ready to move on. The drama surrounding his demeanor is annoying.

Interesting that the media is universally on Rodgers side with this. I've yet to see 1 comment from a legitimate news source saying this is on Rodgers. Not 1.
Good article here:
https://sports.yahoo.com/packers-have-only-themselves-to-blame-for-aaron-rodgers-draft-day-chaos-010300782.html

The simple truth of this is the Packers should have seen this impasse coming after the 2020 season, when Rodgers exceeded the organizations expectations and drove a stake through the plan to begin a transition to Jordan Love in 2021 or 2022. Whatever the master plan was to engineer a smooth transition, it was clear that Rodgers wasn’t going to deteriorate to the point of making the change simple. That put the Packers into a position to make a choice: Either re-commit to Rodgers and scrap the Love transition plan in the next few years, or open their ears and listen to what Rodgers is saying about where he wants to go.

Should have done this, and not let it linger. If Gute decided he didn't want him I bet he could have gotten 3 firsts or more back in February. Now he has to eat crow in, do damage control, deal with the disruption.
Fail.

One possible route forward is going to Rodgers and promising to trade him after the season. Even go public with that info if Rodgers wants to make sure they follow through. One last horah and then you move on. Sure you lose some leverage in trade talks next year but as long as there are at least two teams interested that shouldn't matter too much.

We will never know how this played out, but both sides should've had this conversation 2 months ago when we were still figuring out the cap situation. Packers could've saved face that it was a gentleman's agreement to move on where Rodgers can go home to the WC and Packers can groom surround his successor with an opportunity for success. Both sides look bad now.

I think that was the Packers plan all along and that is what made Rodgers so upset?

As you posted above we really don't know the full details but from what I'm gathering Rodgers wants out now and probably had this in mind from the time the NFCC game ended. I get the sense the Packers stance is they are going year to year with this with no set end date in mind. It sounds like they have offered him an extension. What I'm saying is they make it very clear that this is the last year, not a stance of we'll examine this again next year.
