I'm still pissed they cancelled The OA.
Yea, they cancelled it just as it was getting good. Final scene was a doozy.

The wife and I just started watching it this week. We're 7 episodes in, and have been blown away so far.
It only gets better too. The season 2 finale is the best episode of the series. I was really happy to read that production is already started for season 3 and they have a seven or eight season plan.

Very good recommendation. I don't rate it nearly as highly as you do -- definitely not close to my top tier, but also one I have an impossible time stopping at just one episode, always a sign of a show I at least like.
Even as a committed radical liberal leftist Marxist socialist SJW (I think that's all of them), some of the gender/sexuality stuff is a little too on the nose for me. Like the whole Aleida subplot; it felt totally tacked on in the 1st season, and is only now, midway through the 2nd (15 episodes) it is only just, finally, starting to pick up some steam. It's not an easy story to tackle given how separated she is from the cast, but that doesn't strike me as good storytelling.
Some of it definitely does land, however, and I appreciate it even when it doesn't. (I can't remember the last time I've been so disappointed in a character as I was Deke when he had his last exchange with Ellen in the capsule. Solid choice, totally believable for the time, he realized he was out of line, but man ... I really respected Deke. Damn it.)
Otherwise, it's just a really compelling concept -- I've always liked alternate history type stuff; Watchmen blew me away in that regard -- pulled off by some obviously really smart people. I've never been a huge Moore fan; don't really care about Star Trek and thought BG was good rather than great. But I've always had a lot of respect for him, so this show isn't very surprising. One thing I absolutely love about it is that people actually talk to each other; it provides constant moments of catharsis that feel very satisfying. The acting is generally very good; I really like Gordo and especially Karen (she's so good). Not a huge Kinneman fan, but he's pretty good as the lantern-jawed alpha male with a soft side. Margo's awesome. Just a lot of good characters in a story that's always aggressively moving forward in interesting ways.
One thing that's interesting is that I find myself watching with a hint of impending doom, even in situations that aren't really all that hazardous. But after a few accidents out of nowhere -- are there any other kind? -- the show trains you to really appreciate that this is an incredibly dangerous thing these people are doing, which I feel very strongly. So I'm kind of always on the edge of my seat. So yeah, that's cool another season is one the way.

Seth Rogen has been working on a live action version for a few years now, so it was fun to see him show up in the animated version. As a fan of the comic, they really nailed the vibe. There were some changes (Omni Man is way more powerful in the comics) but man that first season was awesome. Incredible voice cast. Amazon has nailed the comic adaptions between that and The Boys.
