Watched "Without Remorse"

Considering the source material, the movie was a disappointment for me.

It also felt like just a setup to do Rainbow.

Got around to watching Yellowstone, I'm a couple episodes into season 2. Pretty good show, not sure if this comp has been made but it's kind of the cowboy version of Sons of Anarchy. Hopefully it doesn't get as ridiculous as SOA got later in it's run.

Seth Rogen has been working on a live action version for a few years now, so it was fun to see him show up in the animated version. As a fan of the comic, they really nailed the vibe. There were some changes (Omni Man is way more powerful in the comics) but man that first season was awesome. Incredible voice cast. Amazon has nailed the comic adaptions between that and The Boys.

Watched Bad Trip on Netflix last night. Hilarious. The difference between this and much of Sascha Baron Cohen's work is this one seems to want to portray the marks as good people rather than objects of scorn. I'm not saying what SCB does is bad, it's not. He exposes people but with this one you actually feel a little better about humanity afterwards....while also seeing Eric Andre get butt banged by a gorilla.

Otherwise, it's just a really compelling concept -- I've always liked alternate history type stuff; Watchmen blew me away in that regard -- pulled off by some obviously really smart people. I've never been a huge Moore fan; don't really care about Star Trek and thought BG was good rather than great. But I've always had a lot of respect for him, so this show isn't very surprising. One thing I absolutely love about it is that people actually talk to each other; it provides constant moments of catharsis that feel very satisfying. The acting is generally very good; I really like Gordo and especially Karen (she's so good). Not a huge Kinneman fan, but he's pretty good as the lantern-jawed alpha male with a soft side. Margo's awesome. Just a lot of good characters in a story that's always aggressively moving forward in interesting ways.

One thing that's interesting is that I find myself watching with a hint of impending doom, even in situations that aren't really all that hazardous. But after a few accidents out of nowhere -- are there any other kind? -- the show trains you to really appreciate that this is an incredibly dangerous thing these people are doing, which I feel very strongly. So I'm kind of always on the edge of my seat. So yeah, that's cool another season is one the way.

I know you like it, but I wonder if your opinion on the overall quality of the show changes with the next five episodes. It's easily the best stretch of the series.

Wonder if BKV and Staples will ever relent and let somebody will take a swing on Saga. Bummer that none of the BKV stuff has gotten off the ground in another medium.

I don't think I've ever read a comic book but my partner got me into the MCU movies and that's been sort of a springboard into a lot of other superhero shows/movies. This first season of Invincible stacks up against any of them IMO.

Not sure if anyone is watching Mare of Eastown and watched SNL last night but the spoof they did was spot on and hilarious. Granted my wife comes from that region so we make fun of that accent all the time.

I don't think anything's going to get it to the same level you have it, for me at least. I think I'm through 2-8 now, and the Karen-Danny affair might be my single least favorite development so far. It's like they needed some added drama and pulled that one out of a hat. Two thumbs down. On the flip side, the impending Soviet-US catastrophe has been like a slow-motion car wreck (in a good but heartbreaking way). You knew it was going to come to that, but it's such a tragedy that it did. Moments of real connection, undone by fear and tribalism.

Overall, nothing is perfect. But it's really, really good! I've been recommending it to anybody I know who likes entertainment, something I haven't done since I think the Queen's Gambit. So I'm glad to have it in the playlist and I appreciate the recommendation as one of the unfortunate aspects of the streaming era is that so many gems like this fly almost totally under the radar.

EDIT: WTF, I thought I was in the Media Lounge in the CA board. How the F did I end up here???
