flexibility is nice - it's why i'm not a fan of paying role players big long contracts (Lonzo, VanFelton, Bertrans, ect)
Sorry, but Lonzo and Fred are not role players. They are dynamic high-usage 2-way players that can eventually become stars.
van vleet is 27 years old. when is he becoming a star ? when he's 30 ?
It's happened before but I don't think it's happening in his case. His star is at its peak right now. This is as good as it gets if I had to predict. Lonzo has the type of game that could get better with age but at the same time he has a role players mentality so I think he'll always feel comfortable in that setting but I might still give him alittle version of the bag cause at his age you could have him for 10 yrs and watch him grow.
In terms of how we play I will say that FVV fits more in terms of being a confident scorer at PG who plays defense. Lonzo is more the better facilitator with defense who defers on offense but I'm at sort of a crossroads with where the nba is going and how they view PGs. I want to love what Ball does, I've always liked PGs who's primary function was getting his targets hot like a pocket QB of sorts. But teams, ours in particular seem to prefer the scoring PG while splitting the passing duties evenly.
Anyway back to Luka, it looks like he can do alittle of both but I don't wanna set my expectations at anything higher than a bench guard until I see what Thibs does with him.
