I'd imagine that you would be looking at something in the $90m/6 range to buy out his final pre-arb season, three years of arb and two years of FA*, but I'm not sure which party would be unnerved the most by that.
*That would break down to roughly $500k for next year, $8/$13.5/$18m for his arb years and $25/$25m for his FA years, which doesn't seem unreasonable.
Seems pretty risky for the organization at this point.
Does it though? He’s playing the 2nd toughest defensive position so could still move to 2nd, 3rd or CF and be a valuable defender if SS isn’t his long term spot. He’s got a great arm and he’s already proven himself to be a plus hitter with possibly even more upside. He’s only 23 and has posted OPS+ numbers of 144, 128 and 126 the current season as a middle infielder. That’s extremely valuable.
I think locking up a young player like Bo is very low risk, it’s giving big money to an older player like Springer who won’t likely stay in CF his entire contract and is already having issues physically that’s risky.
