The first move the Knicks will try and make is trading Barrett to Miami for Butler.

Ok

Bro... That's the official speech for the public. It's meaningless. Do you think they would have ever admitted to tanking? Only Hinkie owned up to it, and he's practically been banished by the NBA. Their interviews were just a bunch of safe and meaningless platitudes that we hear over and over again. Mills and Perry knew exactly what they were doing. They wanted Zion. Whether Fizdale was in on the plan or actually bought into the idea that he could compete with this atrocity of a roster is fairly irrelevant.

Them talking about trying to compete ahead of the 2018-19 season was their WMDs. They wanted to be bad enough for Zion, and have two max salary slots for KD and Kyrie. That was the process. Talks of "patience", "building championship habits", "culture" and "competing" was just their cover.

They definitely tried to compete the following year, and failed so spectacularly that Mills's demotion was inevitable.

So you want me me to believe that someone who always preached competing & even forfeited our future prospects to do so, decided he was going to change his mind for one year, even when they tell you otherwise? Instead of him actually trying to win but just sucking at again, just like he always has?

Ok.

And my point is what they "told me" in this press conference means absolutely nothing.

I mean, you're trusting a PR press conference by a front office that put together an aggressively atrocious roster and traded away their two best players (one injured to be fair) and invested a lot of playing time in young projects (who were still perceived as having some upside back then) the year Zion was about to enter the draft. Everyone around the NBA knew they were aiming for Zion.

I think your argument that the Knicks never intended to tank that year and that it was just Mills being incompetent is an oversimplification. I share your frustration about he Knicks failure to tank through all these years. But they did tank that year. If you want to believe the words from PR press conference over the atrocity that this roster was and all the widespread noise about the Knicks aiming for Zion that year, then by all means go for it.

There's no need to pretend the Knicks didn't tank that specific year to kill Steve Mills. He was absolutely incompetent regardless. But he didn't get everything wrong.

Also now that I know sham doesn’t want Lonzo I have a lot of optimism not only are we are going to land him but send mitch out in a sign and trade for him and jaxson Hayes praise the sun

I’m surprised, I thought for sure you would root for Dallas since that’s noel’s new team.

jfc this is evil - even for you. don't give people the false hope of a super team. there isn't a chance in hell we are getting Dame and Kawhi.

and I wouldnt be surprised if DeRozan doesn't f with us either. He is a Cali guy and might want to stay out west. As for Lonzo i bet he ends up staying. So everyone should prepare for year 3 of Elf.

Payton
Oladipo
Rudy Gay
Randle
Drummond

This line-up could singlehandedly open a wormhole and allow us to find a better world where the NBA doesn't exist.

I think it's worth it.

Here's what I'd do:

Let RJ reach whatever his ceiling is. Prepare the cap for Luka. Otherwise don't do much. Try to keep tanking, despite my rational view of it which is that it's overrated, and try to sign Luka.

That's it lol.

So simple and really the only approach.

See what we have with youth, try to draft high, and set the table for Luka, Tatum, and Zion. They're going to be running the league anyway in 3-5 years.

I still believe RJ is a really good second or third star but I don't think he's the kind of guy who can be your go-to guy no. But he'll support what you have.

Monte Morris can do a lot more than Bullock

They certainly have different roles. And I agree Monte is a good player. But so is Reggie. (Eg, their 3pt% is similar, but Reggie takes twice as many. Stocks are similar, but Morris obviously has many more assists ... but is a back-up.)

So if Monte deserves much more than 27/3 where does that leave Reggie?

Morris can run an offense, something Bullock can't, which makes him more valuable IMO

I think Bullock could fetch 3/24 (isn't that the amount of the MLE?)....I wouldn't give it to him. would only offer him a 1yr deal. don't wanna tie up long-term $ to someone that's pretty replaceable

I don't see star player, but if he works on his defensive consistency (he had some really great stretches) he could be a super high level 3 and D guy... Maybe Middleton eventually... That's a building block.
