I would laugh if we hired Tim Duncan

I think Orlando is a perfect fit for Hammon (whether she is a perfect fit for Orlando is another question). I absolutely expect her to get a Head coaching gig this season. If she has to choose between Portland and Orlando, it would say a lot on how an up-and-coming coach values these two rosters.

Wait.. I just realized something. JV and Hammon both came from Pop's coaching tree right?

Yes he was. JV might be my least favorite coach in our history. Did any player blossomed under him?

If she's interviewing here, all they have to say is your hired.

I doubt she's at the point where she could interview teams.

They just showed on News 13 the Magic have interest in Becky Hammon. That would be interesting if our head coach is a Woman.

The media will hammer away on questions like, "will male players play for a woman?" or "will male players play for a homosexual?" Or counter arguments that many Black players come from strong matriarchal backgrounds and a MORE accepting of female leaders than male. And on and on. For me all of that is crap. But the media circus will do their thing.

NBA players want a coach that leads to wins. It is not deeper than that. Hammon has many traits suggesting she will drive a younger team forward. That for me makes her a better fit to Orlando than Portland (Clifford looks to be the kind of coach the Trailblazers need). But is she the best candidate for Orlando? That for me must be the question. With Armstrong and Vanterpool basically displaying the same traits as Hammon, it will come down to coaching-style intangibles I would think. Practice regimes, expectations for roster adjustments, philosophies on use of assistant coaches and interactions with trainers. i.e. all the little stuff that fills the day to day work of a head coach.

What I would think is that PBO Weltman has only one criteria for the next coach: can you lead this team forward? Being a homosexual female will lead to a lot of news stories about two-glass ceilings though, when she gets her NBA gig. And I am confident she will get a job, if not this year, then next.

I like Becky but what makes her a better candidate than Kenny? Atkinson should be option 1.

Why couldn’t we hire Becky as head coach + a top assistant coach with HC experience in a package deal?

Many head coaches move back and forth between HC and AC throughputs their careers. Look at Mike D’Antoni in Brooklyn assisting Steve Nash.

She was a great guard in the WNBA and has been credited as a players coach in San Antonio, specifically with guiding their guards and instilling a “floor general confidence” in their young back court.

I would 100% be on board with giving her a chance in Orlando.

I don’t think she is a better candidate than Atkinson. I think it’s moreso Hammon seems to be a more realistic target for a rebuilding team in a transitionary stage.

In the interview with Weldham when Cliff was fired he insinuated that he would explore “unconventional” candidates…….I believe she was already pre-selected at that point.

I don't think the magic have done any interviews yet. All I've heard is interested in this person or this person. Becky Hammon is the only one I know for sure that the Magic said they have interest in.

Chauncey Billups is from Denver, it's possible that they try to coral him as a coach, before he goes somewhere else. That would leave Malone available.

I hope we hire the best candidate. I don't care about the watered down equality BS society pretends to care about. If shes the best candidate for the job then I'm 100% on board. If they hire her and all they talk about is first women this and that, then I'd be concerned about the hire. I'm still on the Vanterpool bus, but someone from the Popovic line of coaching peaks my interest.

Takes two to tango.

Atkinson might not be super interested in another long, arduous rebuild like he had in Brooklyn a few years ago.

Well EP managed to fool a lot of teams into extending his contract due to JV's tutelage. LOL

Seriously though, which coach under Pop's coaching tree were successful? Pop maybe a great coach but maybe those under him leave a lot to be desired? Not really his fault, another legendary coach like Coach K probably only had 1 great disciple in Snyder.. others under him are just so-so.

Question, who are the Popovich's coaching tree guys that found great success in the league? Im genuinely curious.

As I said in my other post, Coach K's coaching tree leave a lot to be desired despite hi, being a legendary coach.

Yeah, he might get PTSD with the experience of leading young guys and just getting fired when they are about to break out. However, if we were the only one to give him a HC position then I think he will bite.

What are the chance POR or IND will give him a chance?

OMD: Orlando Magic Coaching Search Power Rankings: The Early Stages of the Process

Their list:
1 KENNY ATKINSON
2 DAVID VANTERPOOL
3 BECKY HAMMON
4 CHAUNCEY BILL
5 ANFERNEE HARDAWAY
6 TERRY STOTTS
7 IME UDOKA
8 DARVIN HAM
9 TYRONE CORBIN
10 MIKE D'ANTONI

I think many of us have settled that any of the top-3 names on this list are the direction ReamGMers would go. Certainly it would be for me.
