If you want to chalk it up to age, inexperience and playing in a bubble, that’s fine. However, it still stands that he underperformed relative to expectations.
Isn't that precisely his point? What are the expectations for an 18yr old with his skill set playing in the G-league?
You seem to think higher. I think it's very difficult to tell. There are no comparables, 1st time players skipped college for the g-league.
After watching Kuminga's G-league highlights, would it be shocking to anyone that he developed into a star?
It wouldn't shock me.
He initially said that saying Kuminga played terrible is a stretch. I'm saying his splits of 39/25/63 are pretty bad. He replied that he doesn't expect more out of a 18 yr old playing in the G League. I'm saying if you want to attribute it to age and these other factors that's fine, but the general consensus was that he would play better than he ultimately did.
There is a comparable and someone who is projected to go in the same range as Kuminga and that's Jalen Green. And Green had shooting splits of 46/37/83.
I certainly don't base my opinion of a player on their highlight reels, that is guaranteed to end badly. I've seen too many highlight reels of guys like Austin Rivers, Perry Jones III, and Andre Drummond and gotten burned basing my opinions on those vids. With that being said, could he end up being a star? It's possible, but the initial results don't look promising.
