He wasn't terrible, that's a stretch

His shooting percentages were pretty bad.

I wouldn't expect otherwise from a 18yr old outta HS in the Gleague

What about Jalen Green?

If you want to chalk it up to age, inexperience and playing in a bubble, that’s fine. However, it still stands that he underperformed relative to expectations.

Isn't that precisely his point? What are the expectations for an 18yr old with his skill set playing in the G-league?

You seem to think higher. I think it's very difficult to tell. There are no comparables, 1st time players skipped college for the g-league.

After watching Kuminga's G-league highlights, would it be shocking to anyone that he developed into a star?

It wouldn't shock me.

He did put up good %s, if he didn't I'm not sure how far down he falls on big boards regardless. Coming out of HS and into the Gleague and then playing well enough to standout most nights should account for more than their %s

If kuminga falls to 7 you take it and run. He’s a project but you can see flashes where you can see him becoming a great off the dribble scorer. His shot doesn’t seem broken to me - just need to get reps in. On top of being an absolute tank and athletic freak at only 18. He’s 8 months younger than green. 8 months may not seem like much but at that age 8 months of development can be massive. In fact if we get into the top 4 at like 3 or 4 I wouldn’t be against trading down to 5 to get kuminga and another lotto pick.

Green is the more polished player now but I feel like kuminga potentially has a higher ceiling.

It wouldn't shock me.

He initially said that saying Kuminga played terrible is a stretch. I'm saying his splits of 39/25/63 are pretty bad. He replied that he doesn't expect more out of a 18 yr old playing in the G League. I'm saying if you want to attribute it to age and these other factors that's fine, but the general consensus was that he would play better than he ultimately did.

There is a comparable and someone who is projected to go in the same range as Kuminga and that's Jalen Green. And Green had shooting splits of 46/37/83.

I certainly don't base my opinion of a player on their highlight reels, that is guaranteed to end badly. I've seen too many highlight reels of guys like Austin Rivers, Perry Jones III, and Andre Drummond and gotten burned basing my opinions on those vids. With that being said, could he end up being a star? It's possible, but the initial results don't look promising.

Dalek wrote:Toronto has a real development opportunity while Pascal is out. It is not a huge change but if you have a guy like Kai Jones or Alperen Sengun or Usman Garuba come in looking good they might be given more time to be experimented with.

Is Sengun a true offensive hub? Without P he can play more in the high post or elbow offense and show his passing and scoring touch.

Can Kai be that rim running big with some creation opportunities?

Can Garuba play out of the short roll?

I like Kai the most out of the bunch because he is so skilled and the best athlete but not given a good opportunity at Texas. This opening might allow him to play a lot of PF and demo his skill through camp and play with starters more.

Basically anyone of these guys has just been given more time to play with our best players and experiment with what they can do. I think we have to go big at this point. The talent is there and now the opening too.
On paper i understand ur point but siakam is slated to either be ready by the start of the season or miss very little time. The rookies will barely have their bearing by the time siakam returns, let alone allowing the Raptors to be experimental and developmental by then.

I guess JaQuori McLaughlin isn't listed on most mocks I've seen because he's 23 and plays at a smaller school, but the kid is legit and if he goes undrafted he'd be on of the first calls I'd make for UDFA signings.

I think Turkey plays Canada this summer so we should get a good look at him against NBA players

Even if he can show he can play with the big boys , not even dominate, his stock will rise

"Much like 2014, this year's draft has an ultra hyped 6'8" wing with disappointing motor and efficiency slotted at #1 and an extremely fluid and well rounded 7' at #3

Freshman BPM:
Mobley 13.7
Embiid 11.9
Wiggins 8.3
Cade 7.9
"
Stay away from Cade at #1 (#2 for me )

It's a great opportunity for him to show his stuff. I know I'll be watching closely, he has got to be one of the most intriguing players projected to go in the lottery.

Admittedly, I'm torn on my opinion of him. He looks somewhat out of shape, un-athletic, doesn't appear to have a high vertical, etc. It's hard to look at him and not have a somewhat negative bias. But he also appears to have great hands, a developed post game and scoring touch, looks like he can pass -- I've even seen a highlight package of him doing a 360 jam...

I'll definitely be using that Canada game to help frame my opinion of him

He seems rock solid offensively. I wouldn't be surprised if he's a 10 year pro as a backup who can make impressive spot starts.

But with the plethora of wings...would be very surprised if we reached for Alperen Şengün. Very surprised.

As much as I’m stoked for the possibility of moving up to the top 4 or a high level, high upside pick at 7-9, I’m also kind of pumped for our 2 second rounders.

There seems to be a lot of interesting talent at the back end of this draft in the 30-50 range and big boards and mocks have different guys all over the place.

A couple of my personal favourites.
