And what a masterpiece from Durant.
Proved what wrong? this was a horrific coaching peformance. it took a durant 50 point triple double to overcome it.
what a complete joke. Durant has the best game in nets history and somehow its a masterful coaching by nash.
How about in a 1 possesion game, during a FT attempt, with under 90 seconds you sub harden out for a defender?
They're not mutually exclusive, Durant had a monster performance, and Nash did a good job in terms of putting him in good spots to exploit their defense. Our defensive performance in the 2nd half was also awesome, Nash should get credit for that. We also got huge performances out of our role players like Green, Griffin, and Shamet. Nash should get credit for that. We abused Lopez relentlessly whenever he was on the court, Nash should get credit for that. Playing Harden as a decoy despite his total ineffectiveness was a smart move, because it gave Durant space to operate. Nash should get credit for that.
Nash did a good job and Durant also had an epic game. Phil Jackson got amazing games out of Jordan, Kobe, and Shaq many, many times, still doesn't take away from his coaching.
Everyone hating on Nash should eat crow. Y'all keep bitching about things that just aren't true. I saw adjustments and I saw appropriate lineup changes and I saw a team that responded to his coaching.
I know you’re not talking about me because I never said anything about Harden & KD’s minutes or called for subs to play.
With that said, I wholeheartedly disagree. Prok is right.
I’m not going to credit Nash for benching players who were net negatives from the moment they stepped on the court. Those were obvious observations that needed to be made.
The only change we made offensively was having someone screen for Durant above the 3pt line, so he could get downhill to shoot, penetrate, or pass.
I called for this exact action several times in Game 4 (possibly as early as Game 3) and even in the opening post tonight. Go check my post history if you want. While I’d love to pat myself on the back and say “I have what it takes to be an NBA coach”, it is absolutely ridiculous that it took us so long to use it. I’m watching from home and literally called this days ago. They have a professional NBA staff getting paid millions to coach.
And why should Nash get credit for our defense? Switching, defending man-to-man, and switching back when off-the-ball to inhibit the opposition from swinging the ball to exploit mismatches isn’t rocket science.
Our role players played well because they played well. If Nash gets credit for those who played well, should he get critique for those who didn’t? Of course not.
You’re glossing over the negatives because we actually won. We won because KD put up the best playoff performance in Nets history and a GOAT-tier all-time NBA performance and Jeff Green shot incredibly well from 3.
It’s the coaching staff’s responsibility to put us in the best position to win and adjust. The fact that we lost 2 games in a row and didn’t adjust at all for to start this game is absolutely ridiculous.
It is blasphemous to put Nash and Phil Jackson’s name in the same sentence. At the height of MJ’s offensive prowess, he told the league’s best superstar wing that he wouldn’t win unless he changed his playstyle and bought into a completely different team philosophy and offensive system. Our coaching staff gives the ball to our stars and tells them to ISO away.
I support Nash’s refusal to play end of bench role players who clearly aren’t good enough to have a positive impact.
And I think he was fine letting KD and Harden dictate how many minutes they were comfortable playing.
But those things are minuscule in comparison to the importance and magnitude of the decisions he should be making.
